As a Student Trainee (Accounting) in the OCC Pathways Internship Program, you will:
  • Provide basic accounting, financial reporting, and financial management support for FM's Financial Accounting Team.
  • Assist higher-graded accountants, in responding to OCC management and business unit customers regarding accounting issues and transactions.
  • Perform routine or limited accounting, financial reporting, and financial management duties and tasks.
  • Assist higher-graded accountants with the completion of recurring and ad hoc internal and external accounting related requestions for information.

Note: After successful completion of the program requirements and based on OCC's needs, the selectees may be non-competitively converted to a Term or Permanent position based upon an evaluation of performance, completion of at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program. However, service in the OCC Pathways Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service. For information on OCC's Salary Structure, click here .


Conditions of Employment

  • As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. If selected, you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit documentation of proof of vaccination by November 8, 2021 or before appointment or onboarding with the agency.
  • Sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.
  • Complete a one year trial period.
  • Provide proof of education (transcripts) prior to a job offer; an official transcript will be required if you are selected.

  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9 . Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • Travel occasionally to attend training, as required.
  • Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
  • Successfully complete a background investigation that includes criminal history, financial history (including a credit check) and other information.
  • Sign a statement that you are voluntarily leaving the competitive service for a position in the excepted service, if applicable.

You must meet the following Eligibility Requirements and Qualification Requirements by the start date of this internship. Eligibility Requirements:

1) You MUST meet the definition of a STUDENT for the duration of your appointment as follows: An individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (high school, college (4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate) in a qualifying and accredited educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93-842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this Program. 2) Grade Point Average (GPA): Every semester, you must maintain good academic standing with an overall GPA of 2.9 or higher on a 4.0 scale. An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university. When recruiting for Interns who will be converted to a position with a positive education requirement, include:

3) You must be seeking a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that will include 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing courses. The 24 hours may include up to 6 semester hours in business law.

Qualification Requirements: To qualify for the NB-II level, you must meet the following requirements: A. Education: In the Internship Program, you may qualify based solely on education as follows: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study (60 semester hours) or an associate's degree.

Please Note:
The Accountant eligibility and qualification requirements are interchangeable. Conversion to an Accountant is contingent on meeting the basic education requirement. There are two ways to meet this basic requirement. Completion of all requirements for a bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 semester hours of credit in business law; OR A combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of accounting experience or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND 24 semester hours in accounting courses, which may include up to 6 semester hours of business law; OR a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant ; OR Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing.
