Duties

The incumbent:

Assist higher level accounting managers in keeping accurate accounting books and to provide accurate financial records to Gallery managers.

Ensure the timely and accurate processing of all expenditures, reimbursements, foreign invoices (processing and payments), and any other pertinent financial transactions having to do with accounts payable.

Ensure that transactions are processed in accordance with pertinent laws, regulations, and the requirements of internal accounting controls and accepted business practices.

Ensure that transactions entered into the accounting system are properly supported by approved documents.

Verifies that all necessary transaction codes, payment groups, vendor sites and other pertinent information required in the Gallery's financial system are entered correctly.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-9.

Specialized Experience Statement :

Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal NF-8 level, maintaining the general ledgers and other accounting records used to prepare timely and accurate internal management reports as well as external reports to such government agencies as Treasury, OMB, GAO, IRS, and OPM.

  • Knowledge of governmental accounting practices, rules, regulations, procedures and reporting is required.
  • Knowledge of the application and operation of the Gallery's financial system and an understanding of the principles involved, and the controls required in direct entry of accounting data to the computer via remote terminals.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting practices for non-profit institutions including those prescribed in the AICPA Statement of Position 78-10, "Accounting Principles and Reporting Practices for Certain Nonprofit Organizations, December 31, 1978.

  • "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
