Duties

As a WG-5703-5 Motor Vehicle Operator, your duties may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Transports supplies, materials and equipment throughout urban areas.
  • Ensures cargo is protected from the weather and that it is properly distributed and secured to prevent damage or loss while in transit.
  • Completes trip tickets, preventive maintenance records, and accident reports.
  • Checks shipping documents to verify incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Uses automated material identification equipment such as bar code wands, computer terminals, and laser scanners tied into a central computer to select storage locations of items being shipped or received.
  • Maintains and washes the vehicles in compliance with established policies.

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
  • Employment is subject to the successful completion of the pre-appointment process (i.e., background investigation, verification of qualifications and job requirements, completion of onboarding forms, submission of required documents, etc.)
  • If selected, you must pass a pre-employment medical examination.
  • The selectee must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle license.
  • This position is designated as Tier I - Emergency Essential.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Qualifications

Motor Vehicle Operator, WG-5703-5
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position. The approved job elements for this occupation are listed as follows:
  • Ability to perform motor vehicle operator and material handler duties with minimum supervision. (Screen-Out Element)
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles such as pickup trucks, panel trucks, and sedans.
  • Ability to perform material handler duties involving receiving, storing and shipping materials.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment in a warehouse.
  • Ability to follow safety and operating laws, requirements and procedures.

    • Subject to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions.
    • The incumbent may lift and carry items that weigh up to 8 kilograms (40 pounds).
    • The materials handling work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted.
    • Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons.
