Duties
The Division of Computing and Communication Foundations (CCF) supports research and education activities that explore the foundations of computing and communication devices and their usage. CCF supports advances in computing and communication theory, algorithms for computer and computational sciences, and architecture and design of computers and software. CCF also supports revolutionary computing models and technologies based on emerging scientific ideas.
The Deputy Division Director is one of the National Science Foundation's spokespersons in the area of computing and communication foundations. The Deputy Division Director participates with the Division Director in providing leadership and direction to the CCF Division; assists the Division Director in carrying out division-wide responsibilities such as strategic planning and management, policy steering, recruitment of staff, budget preparation for submission to Congress, and overseeing the evaluation of proposals and recommendations for awards and declinations; and represents NSF to relevant external groups and fosters partnerships with other divisions, directorates, Federal agencies, scientific organizations, and the academic community. The Deputy Division Director assumes the Division Director role in the absence of the Division Director. The Deputy Division Director also serves as a member of the leadership team for the National Science Foundation's Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering.

Applicants who do not provide a narrative statement will only be considered for an IPA appointment, if applicable.

PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL (P/Ts): All applicants must submit written statements (narrative format) of accomplishments that would satisfy the P/T qualifications. You must address each P/T qualification separately.
Essential
1. Education preferred at the Ph.D. level; or equivalent professional experience; or a combination of education (such as a Master's degree) and equivalent experience preferred; in computer and information science and engineering, the physical sciences, or other related field. Professional experience may include research, teaching, professional practice, and/or management.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with federal, academic, and industrial research and education initiatives.
3. Demonstrated experience in research or research administration in computer and information science and engineering or related fields.
4. Demonstrated understanding of universities and other organizations where research and education is conducted; and demonstrated knowledge of grant and contract administration and budget management.
When responding to the P/T and E/M qualifications, you must clearly show that you possess the experience, knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of this position by submitting narrative responses in which you detail your experience in each of the E/Ms and P/Ts.

Persons appointed to the SES are eligible for health benefits, life insurance, social security, Federal retirement and thrift savings plan coverage, and participate in the Federal leave system. The position may also be filled on an Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) assignment basis.
