Business and Economics Librarian George Mason University Libraries seeks a creative, dynamic, teaching-oriented individual with a background in business, economics, or related field to support the university's faculty, students, and staff with their business and economics research needs. About the Position:The Business and Economics Librarian position supports teaching and research by providing library instruction, research assistance, collection development, and academic outreach, including research data support. This position will liaise with the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs in both the School of Business and the Department of Economics on the Fairfax and Arlington campuses. This position is an integral part of the Social Sciences Team, and will report to the Lead, Social Sciences Team and Arlington Campus Library. The Social Sciences team is part of the Learning, Research and Engagement (LRE) division of University Libraries and works with numerous social science disciplines across the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Education and Human Development, the Schar School of Policy and Government and the Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution. This position will also collaborate with the Libraries' Digital Scholarship Center (DiSC) as well as with other library departments more broadly and across the university to support research and data efforts, methods, and tools.Responsibilities:Provide liaison services to several programs, notably the School of Business and the Department of Economics;Provide library instruction and support for face-to-face and online/distance education classes in assigned departments and programs;Provide general and specialized reference and research assistance, as well as email and virtual reference;Provide instructional services (including curriculum-based instruction, walk-in instructional sessions, web-based tutorials, library orientations, and individual student appointments);Prepare and maintain web-based instructional materials, online research Libguides, etc.;Develop and maintain physical and electronic collections in support of designated programs, working closely with faculty contacts in the identification, monitoring, and selection of research materials and purchases, and provide assistance in identifying resources for the members of these departments;Develop academic department-based relationships through outreach and serve on academic department task forces, committees, work groups, etc.;Work closely with the Digital Scholarship Center to support the data-related needs of designated departments: finding and using relevant datasets as well as instruction and assistance with relevant computational technologies;Follow trends in scholarship in assigned departments and programs in order to respond to student and faculty needs;Participate in the work of the Social Sciences Team including attending group meetings, participating in team-based projects, and collaborating and communicating with other team members; andPerform other duties as requested, which fall within the scope of a member of the University Libraries' Professional faculty.Required Qualifications:ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library or Information Science OR an equivalent certified foreign degree;Undergraduate degree in business, economics or equivalent training and experience;Demonstrated post-MLS academic liaison library experience in supporting teaching, learning and research activities (at least 3-5 years preferred);Experience in providing responsive and quality reference, instruction, digital and collaborative library research services; as well as practical understanding of the changing research needs of students and faculty;Experience in developing, building and sustaining working partnerships and relationships with teaching faculty, researchers and students;Experience with social sciences data and understanding of social sciences research methodologies, including computational tools;Ability to advocate and promote library resources and services to a variety of constituents;Demonstrated ability to use current technologies for delivering and developing library services, including course management systems, online research guides, and digital learning objects;Ability to build collaborative and mutually beneficial working relationships with people of varying backgrounds;Ability to thrive in a team-based environment and work collaboratively;Demonstrated commitment to professional development and growth;Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; andAdditionally, must be able to meet requirements for reappointment and promotion (http://www.gmu.edu/facstaff/libhandbook.html).Appointment/Benefits/Salary: 12-month professional faculty appointment with rank; health plan options and paid life insurance; several retirement plans, including TIAA-CREF; 24 vacation days and 12 paid holidays; tuition waiver for self.
