The Washington Post is hiring for a Manager, Global Payment Operations to oversee the day-to-day operations of the payments and purchasing team that handles the Post's international and domestic payable operations. This role is a crucial component in the continued global expansion of The Post's business and operations, responsible for making over 35,000 payments annually, processing over 50,000 invoices in over a dozen currencies, and paying over 2,000 suppliers and contractors. The ideal candidate will have global banking and accounts payable/purchasing managerial experience for a company working with a diverse and growing international supplier/contractor base.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Post's accounts payable/purchasing functions and supplier management including individual contractors and freelancers by directing and leading supervisors and their direct reports.
  • Lead our global payables expansion by overseeing the processing of payments in multiple currencies using a variety of complex electronic payments, such as international cross border wires and domestic banking network payments, as well as identifying opportunities to implement scalable and repeatable processes and enhancements.
  • Direct and monitor the accurate and timely processing of purchase orders and subsequent reconciliations, as well as daily payment disbursements.
  • Partner with internal clients to educate and enforce the Post's payables & purchasing procedures and policies
  • Ensure compliance and terms fulfillment by leading vendor risk assessment and preparing analysis of contracts in coordination with the appropriate internal teams.
  • Oversee monthly close process for payables and purchasing teams to ensure an accurate and timely close.
  • Manage the contract/lease software system used for tracking terms, timelines, and renewals.
  • Lead recruiting and staff training efforts to ensure knowledge of and adherence to best payables/purchasing practices and procedures and hone customer service skills.
  • Provide short- and long-term strategic direction consistent with both department and company overall objectives
  • Oversee the Post's vendor management with third party partners, helping our internal teams by assisting with completion of vendor setup, contract terms reviews and accurately managing external third-party vendor portal administration.
  • Ensure systems, policies, and procedures adhere to company policies while functioning with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure payable functions accommodate all tax requirements, including 1099 tax information, tax exemption certifications in coordination with the tax department.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related Business Administration program
  • 8+ years of experience in management of payables groups including purchasing or related field
  • Experience in audit, process enhancement, training and contract management is preferred
  • Experience in Oracle, i-Expense and i-Procurement is preferred
  • Expert Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously; results focused
  • Experience with IRS 1099 tax filing
  • Global banking and vendor management experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with employees, superiors, and customers
  • Strong analytical and time management skills
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • Well planned, organized with keen attention to detail
  • Experience with vendor relationship management
  • Experience in a collaborative work environment
