Job Description

The Post is seeking an accomplished leader to become the head of curation and platforms. The editor in this role will work closely with the newsroom, product and engineering leadership teams to develop and implement strategies for curation, packaging and distribution that will surface more of our great journalism to a growing, global readership across a wide variety of products and platforms.

This editor will lead the newsroom's teams focused on digital curation and platforms, including the homepage, apps, social media, Apple News, copy desk, operations and news product. This group includes more than a hundred journalists who are responsible for programming, packaging and optimizing our journalism across multiple products, developing fresh approaches for new platforms and building templates, workflows and tools that help us maintain high standards and quality everywhere we publish our work.

This position calls for someone with a relentless focus on bringing impactful journalism to audiences through timely, relevant and sophisticated packaging and promotion across our many platforms. We are seeking a highly motivated, organized and creative leader with deep experience in journalism, a commitment to The Post's values and the ability to inspire others to enthusiastically embrace a rapidly evolving digital news ecosystem.

The head of curation and platforms will partner with news and product leadership to develop and articulate clear goals and strategies for growth on critical platforms and run cross-functional teams focused on key areas including alerts, recirculation, navigation, and packaging. They will also play a central role in advancing our real-time publishing goals by developing and training teams on our tools and optimizing our processes, workflows and communication. They will help manage key distribution partnerships and optimize curation and publishing of Post journalism on owned and operated platforms, third-party products and social media.

The right person for this role is an excellent communicator and collaborator with extensive knowledge of digital publishing best practices, competitive zeal and a relentless drive to explore and harness the possibilities that technology offers journalism. Experience working with product and design teams is desired, as this leader will be a key liaison to these teams.

The ability to seamlessly shift altitudes - from day-to-day operations to high-level strategy - is essential. Experience analyzing audience trends in real-time and on a longer time horizon is required, as is the ability to draw clear and actionable insights from quantitative and qualitative data and effectively communicate those insights to multidisciplinary teams.

The addition of this role is part of a series of changes to leadership structure that will help bridge news and engineering and prepare us for the future as we continue to grow our global audience and build the news products of the future. As with all our leadership positions, we seek individuals with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion and an empathetic leadership style. This position is based in our Washington headquarters. Once we return to normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.
