Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned product innovator to join our leadership team, helping to manage key cross-functional initiatives, ensure we deliver important product priorities and facilitate further integration of our news and product operations.

The ideal candidate must be highly organized, communicative and self-motivated; enjoy working collaboratively to solve complex problems and deliver great products to users; thrive in a fast-paced environment; and can work in a supportive role helping leadership drive key initiatives.

In this role, the head of product operations will be a partner to Kat Downs Mulder, the CPO and managing editor. They will work with leaders of news, product, design and engineering teams to ensure we are delivering our most important priorities by optimizing workflows, developing training and moving key projects forward. They will manage complex initiatives, working with multiple teams to drive decisions, track progress and produce tangible outcomes.

Experience leading product development or engineering teams in a fast-paced media environment is necessary, as is a passion for creating news and information experiences that deeply engage readers. A track record of success creating clarity in ambiguous situations, overcoming barriers to deliver desired outcomes, anticipating and proactively mediating challenges, and working with a variety of stakeholders is important.

The addition of this role is part of a series of changes to our leadership structure that will help bridge news, product and engineering to prepare us for the future as we continue to grow our global audience and build the news products of the future. As with all leadership positions, we seek individuals with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion and an empathetic leadership style. This position is based in our Washington headquarters. Once we return to normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.
