Job Description

The Post is seeking an accomplished leader to become the head of audience, focusing on digital content strategy, new product development and growth. The editor in this role will work closely with the newsroom, product and engineering leadership teams to develop and implement strategies for digital audience growth.

This position calls for someone with a relentless focus on bringing impactful journalism to new audiences and building lasting relationships with readers, viewers and listeners across our many platforms. We are seeking a highly motivated, organized and creative leader with deep experience in journalism, a commitment to The Post's values and the ability to inspire others to enthusiastically embrace a rapidly evolving digital news ecosystem. A goal-oriented mindset, a collaborative spirit and a willingness to fail, learn and stay curious while focusing on the areas where you can maximize your impact are essential.

The head of audience will work with people across a variety of teams to shape coverage, product and engagement strategies that grow our audience and make us indispensable to our subscribers and potential subscribers. They will partner with news and product leadership to develop and articulate clear goals, strategies and tactics for growth, ensuring we are meeting readers where they are and maximizing the potential of our journalism and our journalists, creating new forms of storytelling, and inventing the news experiences of the future. They will help identify opportunities for new products, shaping ideas and seeing them through to launch.

The head of audience will oversee several accomplished teams including emerging news products, strategic initiatives, partnerships, talent strategy, subscriber engagement, newsletters, news analytics and service journalism. They will work closely with our next generation audience initiative and be a key partner in the newsroom for our Marketing, Analytics and Client Solutions departments.

The right person for this role is an excellent communicator and collaborator with extensive knowledge of audience development best practices, competitive zeal and a relentless drive to explore and harness the possibilities that technology offers journalism. They should have experience developing strategic growth plans and collaborating across teams to implement them. They should have a track record of launching successful news products and experimenting with new platforms and formats. Experience working with marketing, analytics and advertising teams is desired.

The ability to seamlessly shift altitudes - from day-to-day operations to high-level strategy - is essential. Experience analyzing audience trends in real-time and on a longer time horizon is required, as is the ability to draw clear and actionable insights from quantitative and qualitative data and effectively communicate those insights to multidisciplinary teams.

The addition of this role is part of a series of changes to leadership structure that will help bridge news, product and engineering and prepare us for the future as we continue to grow our global audience and build the news products of the future. As with all our leadership positions, we seek individuals with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion and an empathetic leadership style. This position is based in our Washington headquarters. Once we return to normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.
