An Overview
The Department of Planning and Zoning (P&Z) is looking for a part-time ITS Coordinator who will be assigned to their Land Use Services Division (LUS). The ITS (Information Technology Services) Coordinator will address customer and staff issues related to the City’s APEX web-based site plan and permit application system. The APEX site is an EnerGov based system which is a product of Tyler Technologies. A majority of the work will be in support of and to assist internal and external customers with navigating the APEX system and troubleshooting problems. The candidate will maintain problem reports for each issue, working closely with the ITS department to identify and resolve any technical problems that might be identified. The candidate will also develop and lead training classes to educate internal staff about software functions and changes due to system updates.

The selected candidate should demonstrate strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills; verbal and written communication skills and customer service skills by assisting customers to resolve technical issues. Attention to detail is critical. The ability to work in teams, as well as independently, is critical. The ability to work well with people at all levels (technical, non-technical, etc.) is essential.

The Opportunity - Examples of Work
  • Assist customers with intake and routing of applications for special use permits (special zoning approvals for some business types), subdivisions and other land use applications through the APEX system;
  • Research, diagnose, troubleshoot and identify solutions to resolve issues related to APEX;
  • Document complaint reports and troubleshooting steps thoroughly, accurately and in a timely manner;
  • Create technical documents and manuals for Energov and eReview for internal staff;
  • Generate monthly and annual reports, fee reports, contributions, etc.;
  • Test software updates and report issues to the development team and
  • Provide assistance to the Board and Commissions Unit as needed.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Two Year College Degree; working knowledge of City information management systems and previous experience providing technical support or training to end users; at least three years of experience in analysis of departmental activities and functions, and in the design of systems for accomplishing work through computer and telecommunications technology; completion of college-level courses in computer science, information management, accounting, and/or business administration or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires management/supervisory skills and customer support relationship skills, ability to interface with higher management as well as outside department vendors and agencies in support of department technology needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Four Year College Degree; at least three years of thorough knowledge of project management, accessing methods, equipment types, applications, management principles, policies and system design approaches used in management information systems; good knowledge of departmental management information systems and related work processes; ability to coordinate and work effectively with public and employees to troubleshoot and identify solutions to technical issues; and ability to train employees in the methods and procedures used in the operation of management information systems. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs.


This position requires successful completion of pre-employment background checks which will include a criminal history records check.
