Graphic DesignerThe College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) at George Mason University seeks qualified candidates for the Graphic Designer position. The Graphic Designer assists in the promotion of the activities of the College of Visual and Performing Arts, including the events at the Center for the Arts, the Hylton Performing Arts Center, and the activities of the academic departments of the College. This work includes the design of printed and digital materials and assisting all departments of the College with basic graphic design needs.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities: Coordinate with supervisor and other marketing staff members to design and layout printed and digital materials such as posters, fliers, postcards, invitations, ads, and annual reports to promote the events at the Center for the Arts and the Hylton Performing Arts Centers; Create multiple versions/sizes of ads for various digital ad platforms. Make minor adjustments as necessary to work created by other designers to expedite the production process;Coordinate with external designer(s) to ensure design consistency with existing visual identity and marketing materials; Assist other departments in the College with graphic design needs, preparing designs and prepress layouts for small projects such as brochures, fliers and invitations; Create and modify graphic designs for digital use as website and digital programming assets. Resize images for optimal user experience in these platforms; Assist with asset management of finalized designs, logos, and imagery. Source stock imagery. Maintain current venue brand guides; and Occasionally, offer beginning-level tutorials to non-designer staff members. Required Qualifications: BA in Art, graphic design, or related area, or equivalent experience; Knowledge of the arts; Knowledge of industry standards for graphic design, including the use of standard graphic design software, e.g. Adobe Creative Suite; and Knowledge of current digital graphic design practices. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated graphic design experience (typically 2+ years), preferably in a University or other arts environment; Experience designing for printed collateral as well as digital collateral (e.g. social media assets); and Knowledge of and experience illustrating original artwork such as infographics is preferred.
