The Fairfax County Health Department is a progressive public health leader serving 1.2 million residents from diverse ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds. Provides county-wide comprehensive public health nursing services in a clinical setting to include coordination of services for maternal and child health, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV and TB, with a focus on pregnant and post partum women and infants. Coordinates care continuum between Health Department and Inova Cares Clinic for women and other community providers, such as early intervention services and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). Facilitates access to prenatal and post-partum care. Collects delivery information on post-partum clients and provides referrals to public health nurses for follow-up. Serves as an information and referral resource for Inova and the Health Department.

Note: This is a merit job share 20 hour/week position.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus three years of post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education, including two years in a public health/community health setting; plus at least one year experience in a public health/community health specialty area or supervisory responsibilities.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
Driver's License
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - CPR (Required within 60 days)
AED (Required within 60 days)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Three or more years of maternal child health experience in a clinic/hospital/home visiting setting.
• Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, high attention to detail, and strong interpersonal abilities to communicate effectively and clearly.
• Experience working on multidisciplinary and/or multi-agency team(s).
• Ability to build, maintain and promote effective community partnerships (e.g. Health care providers).
• Position requires candidates to work independently and in a team environment.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background investigation, a Child Protective Services (CPS) check, a driving record check, and a sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle.
