Job Announcement

Performs a variety of professional-level HR functions providing the full range of support for the Sheriff's Office Human Resources Branch to include providing information, recommendations and assistance to staff with payroll, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and worker's compensation processing; recruitment and selection; employee onboarding and out processing; position classification and descriptions; research and reporting; and interpreting applicable county and agency payroll and leave policies as well as procedures. The incumbent will implement and administer a wide range of human resource activities for the agency under the general supervision of the HR Manager. The incumbent will serve as the backup to the HR Manager in his/her absence.

  • Administers human resources programs for Department, i.e, tuition assistance, pay for performance, FMLA;
  • Assists with employee relations issues;
  • Assists with workforce planning initiatives for department;
  • Researches and provides analysis of HR issues and initiatives;
  • Assists with recruitment processes for department.

  • Basic knowledge of federal, state, and county laws, regulations and ordinances pertaining to human resources;

  • Ability to speak and write effectively.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in human resource management, public administration, or a related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Three or more years of human resources experience, assisting in or performing duties in the areas of recruiting, payroll, benefits, new hire orientation/on-boarding, performance management, workforce planning, and/or compliance reporting; demonstrated experience assisting with or managing HR compliance and reporting requirements pertaining to Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); strong knowledge/understanding of the county's employment policies and procedures, compensation procedures, position attributes, job attributes, county benefits, etc., to be a resource for employees and supervisors; basic knowledge of federal, state and county laws, regulations and ordinances pertaining to human resources; proficiency and experience using human resources-related county systems, such as FOCUS-HCM, NeoGov, PEAQ, and JDMS. Strong written and oral communication skills with a proficiency with Excel, Word, and Outlook.

BRIDGE CLASS EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Four years of increasingly complex technical administrative experience in the assigned

functional area, comparable to experience at the Administrative Assistant IV, or higher, level. This class can serve as a bridge class enabling individuals who do not meet the educational or professional experience standards listed above to qualify for this class by possessing four years of increasingly complex technical administrative experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Administrative Assistant IV, or higher, level.

The purpose of this bridge class is to promote upward mobility within the Fairfax County

workforce. However persons qualifying for this class on the basis of their technical experience may not substitute this technical experience for education, or for professional experience, in order to qualify for other employment opportunities.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or religious reasons will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. Otherwise, vaccinated employees will complete the attestation online in the first day of employment.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, polygraph exam and psychological exam to the satisfaction of the employer.
