Job Announcement

The Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES), Capital Facilities (CAP), in Fairfax County is seeking for a seeking an architect, civil engineer, structural engineer, mechanical engineer or electrical engineer acting as the owner’s representative for capital construction and renovation projects including buildings, sitework, utilities, landscaping, and renewal. This position performs all aspects of project management including design consultant and construction contractor procurement, with responsibility to ensure safety, quality, timely delivery, and cost effectiveness of assigned projects. Responsibilities include: negotiating and managing architect/engineer contacts; assuring that projects are executed within established budgets and schedules; coordinating Using Agency requirements into the construction documents; ensuring customer satisfaction, and facilitating quality control of construction documents, managing construction, and project closeout. The successful applicant must be highly motivated; possess the skills necessary to work in a fast-paced collaborative team environment; and be oriented toward providing outstanding customer service to end users and project stakeholders.

Note: This position may not exceed 1,560 hours per calendar year. Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs, but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering field.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
A valid driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability required to make periodic, routine site inspections. Must be able to physically negotiate rough terrain and typical construction sites, be able to hear normally in order to recognize backup alarms of the construction equipment. Able to safely climb construction ladders up to 15 feet or more per floor with the potential of multiple floors and able to go up and down stairs for multi-story buildings. Must be able to produce hand written and typed documents. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
