We are seeking an Accounting to join our team in Reston, VA.  In this role you will be responsible for all aspects of accounting for Garden For Wildlife, Inc. You will play a key role in the establishment of Garden For Wildlife (GFW) as a for-profit subsidiary of NWF, working closely with members of the Finance and GFW teams to support timely and accurate closing of our books and required financial reporting. Your role will evolve and will require the ideal candidate to be flexible and open-minded, while being detail oriented and capable of helping establish and implement new accounting processes and systems for a fast-growing e-commerce company. 

Your major areas of responsibility:

  • Preparation of journal entries for processing in the general ledger, including stock and equity accounting
  • Contribute to monthly, (quarterly), and yearly close while maintaining all supporting schedules
  • Work with GFW Finance Director to establish product line level cost accounting system
  • Perform account line item variance analysis and research and resolve discrepancies
  • Work in conjunction with GFW Finance Director to prepare sales tax calculations and filings as well as all required business registrations and filings
  • Effectively communicate with NWF Finance team members to ensure accurate recording of deferred revenue and revenue recognition resulting from timing differences between sales and product shipment
  • Assist in annual audit, including consolidation of financial statements, and tax return preparation
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by maintaining compliance documentation and maintaining historical records by filing documents electronically
  • Other duties as assigned or needed to move the new GFW entity and financial goals forward

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a concentration in Accounting. Working towards a CPA is a plus.
  • 5 years of related for-profit accounting experience. Ideally experience in startup or social enterprise ventures.
  • Excellent analytical skills and knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of e-commerce sales tax regulations and guidelines
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly and engage with diverse teams and groups as well as work independently
  • Desire to learn and grow in the role as part of an entrepreneurial environment
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Experience with ERP accounting and sales systems. Knowledge of or ability to learn the Infor CloudSuite Financial system
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities to meet critical deadlines.

COVID Consideration:

Compensation and Benefits:

This position pays $80,000 – $90,000 (commensurate with experience and skill set).
