Principal Loan Operations Associate, Loan Operations

As the Loan Operations team lead, you'll join Capital One's Agency Finance Servicing organization, a division of the Commercial Real Estate business (CRE). Loan Operations team members support critical processes and transactions and take primary responsibility for administering the loan servicing system. Our ideal candidate will have experience servicing loans and working with loan accounting software, a strong balance of analytical and problem-solving skills, thorough attention to detail, and a proven track record of working across teams to achieve results. You'll have the opportunity to manage team deliverables, contribute meaningfully to department objectives and improvements, ensure compliance with applicable regulations, and build relationships with the various Servicing teams, Asset Management, Closing, and other Agency Finance partners.

The Agency Finance Servicing team supports a total loan portfolio of $50BN and provides ongoing support for the life of each loan. The organization focuses on delivering scale and efficiency, mitigating operational risk, providing a smooth customer experience, and enabling talented associates to excel.

Responsibilities of a Principal Loan Operations Associate include, but are not limited to:
  • Oversee daily critical loan- and investor-level loan maintenance in the loan servicing system, such as payoffs, defeasances, customer auto-debits, and investor transfers tied to ongoing loan sales and securitizations.
  • Perform advanced exception system maintenance while proactively identifying control opportunities to minimize risk.
  • Review and approve analysis of system exception reports and related system maintenance with a high degree of accuracy and assist associates with resolving outages.
  • Monitor and approve daily Bloomberg index uploads and facilitate changes as required by the GSEs or market conditions.
  • Manage payment of post-closing fees to attorneys, investors, and third parties; evaluate documentation to ensure information is complete and required signatures are included.
  • Initiate, support, and enhance internal reporting and metrics tracking, including tracking project performance and remediation activity.
  • Review and analyze loan documents to ensure accurate loan data and make evidence-based recommendations.
  • Collaborate with the loan servicing system vendor regarding system issues, version upgrades, and modifications or enhancements.
  • Lead planning, testing, and implementation of new functionality and processes aimed to streamline and/or automate manual tasks.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Loan Operations, providing excellent customer service and clearly communicating complex results to teammates, Borrowers, Investor contacts, attorneys, and internal partners.
  • Incorporate Capital One's values into daily tasks and assignments.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience
  • 1+ years of experience with Microsoft Office or Google Suite
  • 2+ years of experience with Excel
  • 2+ years of Commercial Banking operations OR loan operations experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS in Finance or Accounting (or another related field)
  • 1+ year of experience with McCracken Strategy
  • 1+ year of experience with Government Agencies, specifically Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae
  • SQL experience
