Technical Writer Job Summary:

Sparks Group and a well-known company in Washington, DC have partnered to find a Technical Writer for a long-term, multi-year contract. We're looking for someone with experience writing complex technical documents that describe technical related processes, policies, procedures, and regulation. Technical Writer Responsibilities:
  • Researches, develops, and updates technical documents, including general orders, standard operating procedures, policy and instruction procedures and manuals, training and testing materials, lesson plans, work instructions, and law-enforcement related technical/safety protocols and best practices.
  • Gathers and discerns information from many sources including security related publications and interacts frequently with subject matter experts on security issues.
  • Reviews and edits materials written by others and ensures document uniformity and consistency across the Metro Transit Police Department and the authority as a whole.
  • Arranges for typing, duplication, and distribution of documents. Ensures that documents are complete, understandable and accurately represents appropriate visual presentation of data.
  • Identifies and implements records and document procedures and processes. Continuously ensures that documents are updated, streamlined, maintained and archived appropriately.
  • Prepares reports and memos in response to internal and external group findings and recommendations. Provides management with the evidence and data to aid in strategic planning decisions related to security issues.
  • Maintains computer records, including historical data, for all documentation prepared. Ensures accurate version control, and audit trail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to people at all levels of the organization, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to stay abreast of innovative technologies that improve security such as CCTV, intrusion devices and access control devices.

Technical Writer Qualifications:
  • BA/BS Bachelor's Degree in relevant field.
  • Four (4) years of experience in the preparation and writing of technical documents that describe security related processes, policies, procedures, regulations and statutes.
  • Knowledge and skillset in security procedures, technologies and techniques
  • Knowledge of research techniques, policy practices and security procedures in general.
