Design Education Program Lead

Within Capital One's design team, the Experience Strategy group seeks a Design Education Lead to craft the strategy and curriculum for bringing Design Education to our 600+ design associates and our partners, both internal and external. Experience Strategy is a small, horizontal team of about 30 designers who serve our broader design team working across all parts of Capital One's business. Our mission is to define and drive universal practices in service of advancing our maturity as a design organization and empowering our teams to deliver their best work. And we need your help to ensure that our designers and partners have access to learning that will elevate their work and Capital One's design acumen!

As our Design Education Program Lead you will use your design expertise to help identify the design education needs of various audiences including designers, product and tech partners and more. You'll coordinate with our Line of Business Design Teams and our Enterprise Learning & Development (ELD) Teams to identify education opportunities and ensure all design learning is consistent with our standards and philosophy. You'll create learning experiences in partnership with ELD and have opportunities to facilitate and lead training for a variety of audiences.

What You'll Do:

You'll be asked to handle a variety of responsibilities, including:

Strategy & Planning
  • Engaging in portfolio prioritization and guiding the design education strategy for the Experience Design organization
  • Managing through shifting priorities to provide clear direction and input
  • Advocating for our customers (Experience Designers, Capital One Associates and Senior Leadership) through human-centered design methods, ensuring strategy addresses their needs
  • Embracing and advocating for an experience mindset - this is as important to the work as the results


Discovery & Delivery
  • Identify Design Education needs across audiences
  • Craft and maintain a Design Education ecosystem that ensures learners have access to training when they need it
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Learning & Development to create learning experiences for our Design Standards and Processes
  • Facilitate Workshops and Training experiences to elevate design acumen across Capital One


Lead & Develop Teams
  • Building and leading successful teams through career development by mentoring, coaching, and elevating others
  • Guiding team members and facilitating strategy, research, alignment, and analysis
  • Navigating conflict resolution within your team as well as within projects, teams and partner relationships


Basic Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of experience in a learning development or design role such as Design Management, Design Strategy, Research, or UX/UI design
  • At least 3 years of experience in training facilitation or in curriculum design


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a horizontal role supporting internal teams
  • Experience in workforce development
  • Experience managing multiple programs of work
  • Familiarity with agile principles, project management methodologies and tools
