Postdoctoral FellowThe College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at George Mason University is seeking a postdoctoral fellow whose research and practice are focused on advancing education of culturally and linguistically diverse learners on a federally-funded research and training grant project, Advancing Content-Integrated Education for English Learners with a STEM Focus (ACE-STEM, 2021-2026), with a group of scholars focused on developing research-based equitable education for multilingual learners and their families. The candidate should demonstrate the capability to initiate and complete research. The Postdoctoral Fellow will collaborate with the ACE-STEM team in all research phases including developing and teaching TESOL courses as well as designing and conducting quantitative and qualitative research through data collection, data analysis, and publication of results. The candidate should demonstrate the capability to initiate and complete research. Other activities include supporting and attending the ACE-STEM professional development activities and working with the grant team and the partner school district(s) in all project phases.Responsibilities:The successful candidate will be expected to: Provide overall support for all grant activities under the direction of the Project Coordinator/PI;Collaborate with the ACE-STEM team in all research phases including designing and conducting qualitative and quantitative research through data collection, data analysis, organization of data, preparation for annual reports, as well as presentation and publication of results;Participate in developing and teaching ACE-STEM TESOL courses; Collaborate in planning Summer Institute professional development activities;Participate in outreach and coordination with the partner school district including cohort recruitment and travel to the LEA; andSupport the development of family engagement activities with the partner school district and cohort teachers. Required Qualifications:Earned PhD in Education or related field with a focus on TESOL, bi-multilingual education or translanguaging at the time of appointment;Knowledge about teaching and learning with PK-12 multilingual learners and families in U.S. public schools;Experience in teaching online courses in TESOL/bi-multilingual education; andExperience in qualitative and/or quantitative data collection, analysis, and database management. Preferred Qualifications:Bilingual or multilingual communication ability; Experience in designing and implementing community-based family engagement programs for multilingual learners and their families, immigrants, and/or refugee communities;Demonstrated scholarly abilities in research and publication;Experience in coordination and collaboration in grant-funded research projects; andProficiency in quantitative data analysis and database management. Salary: $65,000 (12-month contract) with benefits. Employment dates: August 2022 to August 2023. Potential for renewal on a yearly basis.
