Dewberry is currently seeking an experienced Director of Safety and Health, located in Fairfax, VA, at our headquarters office, to lead the firms safety strategy across the organization.

The Director of Safety and Health will provide comprehensive professional support to management and all employees working in our offices and on client projects.

This individual will be responsible for leading and managing the Company's Safety and Health initiatives, loss control programs, and the development of a safety and risk management culture dedicated to being "best in class". Assures company policies and practices are designed to comply with OSHA, USACE, MSHA, DOT, FMCSA, ANSI, EPA rules and regulations as they apply to Architect, Engineering, and General Contractors and the operations of the company.

This position will develop and provide technical and administrative direction on all Safety and Health, which bear critical importance to overall company's objectives, operations, and profitability.

Responsibilities

Key Roles /Responsibilities
  • Oversee safety for 2300 employees and 60 offices
  • Communicate and provide monthly reports to each entity's senior leadership
  • Manage Safety team and regional office Safety advocate program
  • Maintain and annually update Companies Health and Safety Plan(s)
  • Manage and provide technical Safety data for ISN/AVETTA and other client 3 rd party evaluators.
  • Manage and provide support for Medical Monitoring Programs
  • Manage internal Safety equipment and supply Catalog, safety boot program, Fire Retardant clothing program and other related programs associated with safety as needed
  • Manage Workers Compensation, incident investigations and medical management / return to work initiatives.
  • Coordinate Chain of Command Meetings
  • Manage DOT Fleet drivers -Non -CDL criteria and compliance
  • Coordinate and or complete office and field safety audits
  • Provide technical support for confined space entry, fall hazards, traffic control, etc.
  • Maintain OSHA 300, 300A logs and distribute/post as needed
  • Provide and support technical safety data and information as needed for proposals
  • Support project teams with client requirements for site visits and safety meetings
  • Support Logistics with Campus safety
  • Work with Training Team, identifying required safety training
  • Manage/ author bi-monthly safety newsletter
  • Manage/author and distribute Safety Notifications
  • Lead quarterly loss control meetings with insurance companies
  • Review and approve site specific safety plans and Accident Prevention Plans
  • Oversee incident tracking program
  • Assist with the contract prequalification process


Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Minimum 15 years in Safety
  • B achelor's Degree in Safety, industrial hygiene, safety management, environmental science, occupational health or other related field
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Highly effective written, oral and presentation skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands, and lead safety for multiple company offices
  • Through understanding of key regulatory requirements (OSHA, USACE, MSHA, DOT,
    ANSI, and EPA rules and regulations as they apply to Architect, Engineering, and General Contractors.
  • International work, requirements and safety reporting a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record and ability to pass a driving record background check.
