Records Specialist The George Mason University Department of Police and Public Safety Records Office is seeking an energetic, well-organized Records Specialist who takes initiative and is efficient when completing tasks. Responsibilities:This position provides customer service at the public reception desk and administrative support to command staff and others as needed. The incumbent must be comfortable performing in a fast-paced office, which will provide assistance to the public, while simultaneously carrying out both traditional clerical and complex administrative duties. Duties include:Front desk reception;Data entry and file management;Handling of confidential police records;Payment processing and event invoicing;Purchasing of office supplies;Building work orders;Handling telecommunication and electronic access issues;Maintaining the department website; andOther administrative tasks, as assigned.Required Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience;Must be, or able to become, a notary public;Ability to learn the policies and procedures for entering/maintaining police records;Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check;Excellent written and verbal communication skills;Exceptional customer service skills;Ability to exercise good judgement and decision making skills;Ability to work independently and as member of a team; andAbility to work under pressure and with deadlines.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree;Knowledge of law enforcement records management principles and procedures;Familiarity with Virginia FOIA laws, FERPA, and record retention schedules;Working knowledge of the Ellucian Banner system, as well as the eVA (Commonwealth of Virginia) state purchasing system and p-cards;Experience with WordPress, PowerDETAILS, and PowerDMS;Experience working with a Records Management System (RMS) to include both paper records and electronic data; andExperience working at a public reception desk and answering phones, providing customer service.
