Job Description

Zeus is a fast-growing component of The Washington Post which helps publishers optimize their digital advertising. We aim to level the playing field for publishers, as they compete for ad dollars with social and search giants, by using the same technology and strategies as The Washington Post.

The Solutions Engineer will play a crucial role in implementing Zeus technology on publisher sites by becoming deeply familiar with the customer's unique technical and product requirements and combining that with experience with front-end and Zeus technology. You'll be responsible for assessing customer sites to streamline the onboarding process along with advising customers and internal teams to ensure successful Zeus implementations. You'll also be responsible for updating and creating reusable documentation on our approaches as well as aiding in the debugging process for customers alongside our engineering and product teams.

Zeus is a new business that is growing quickly, so you must be able to communicate directly with individual customers in addition to executing processes and procedures to help our organization scale.

You will be expected to be familiar with front-end technology and able to debug Javascript and DOM issues; along with identifying issues where those technologies interfere with Zeus's ad serving processes. An ideal candidate would be familiar with the processes behind optimizing site front-end technologies for speed.

Motivation
  • You enjoy detailed assessment of front-end technology with an eye towards debugging and review of technology efficiency.
  • You have worked with external customers before and love translating their needs into actions for your internal team to take.
  • You are experienced in documenting solutions from both a business and technology standpoint.
  • You enjoy framing recommendations and thinking through trade-offs that can help customers come to a decision.
  • You love to learn about new tools and systems and become an expert in them.
  • You have hands-on experience with publisher content management systems, HTML and Javascript (especially ad technology implementations)
  • You are skilled at communicating complex ideas to both technically knowledgeable and product-oriented audiences
  • You want to collaborate with a talented and supportive team focused on improving advertising for all publishers.

Responsibilities
  • Work across multiple customer implementation projects to understand the details of the customer's advertising technology, in addition to their goals for the Zeus implementation.
  • Become an expert in the Zeus product and technology and how it fits into the overall ad tech architecture, including how it typically interacts with the customer's CMS, the browser DOM, Google Ad Manager and other ad tech partners.
  • Develop recommendations for customers that take into account the technology being used, the product boundaries/roadmap of Zeus and the desired customer outcomes. Clearly communicate trade-offs between technology scope, business decisions and business results.
  • Collaborate with Zeus engineering, product and strategy teams to ensure our customer recommendations balance the needs and outcomes across those areas.
  • Work with the Zeus product team to address common implementation challenges (both before and after implementation) in the product, our vendor partnerships, or both.
  • Document and publish implementation approaches for common scenarios that can be shared with future customer teams.
  • Collaborate on position paper-style documentation on specific processes and technological interactions customers may have to be concerned with.
  • Build expertise in the ad technology and ad operations spaces in order to be able to better advise customers and coordinate across Zeus teams.
  • Work closely with Zeus Customer Integrations and Technical Account Management teams to ensure timelines and success metrics are aligned to recommendations. Follow through as implementations proceed to ensure recommendations are working as expected.
  • Research and document vendors and technology issues that may arise from their operation.
  • Play an active role in mitigating impediments slowing successful implementation of Zeus technology on the publisher site.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum experience 2-5 years in web development or CMS engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to interact with customers at all organizational levels
  • Experience in publishing and/or digital advertising technology with a focus on front-end engineering.
  • Strong organizational, creative problem-solving, and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic group environment and under deadline pressures.
