If so, we are seeking an engineer to lead and shape engagement efforts for the performance evaluation of the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD). You would serve as a trusted partner to the sponsor and influence APL technical efforts to develop and integrate multiple flight systems, to include but not limited to, boosters, guidance, navigation & control, and reentry systems/reentry vehicles (RS/RV) into the Air Force's GBSD weapon system. Techical areas of interest include flight and ground test & evaluation, test, planning, reliability assessment, system performance evaluation, and performance requirements development. As a member of the team, you will also participate in field site testing for some missile systems.As an Air Force Strategic Systems Performance Evaluation Engineer You will lead sponsor engagement efforts to plan a performance evaluation effort, primarily in support of the Air Force GBSD system You will perform missile system test and evaluation, primarily in support of the Navy and Air Force strategic missile programs, including assessments of reliability and maintainability issues You will develop performance requirements for in-development missile systems You will advise government partners on test & evaluation planning and strategy You will evaluate data products and flight test telemetry to determine missile and reentry body performance during submarine deterrent patrol and flight tests You will support other group tasking in the areas of missile and reentry body modeling and simulation, range systems evaluation, and field site support for flight tests You will perform reliability modeling related to missile and reentry systems You will document and present analysis findings as appropriate and interact with sponsors and representatives of other agencies You will support test operations at field sites during SSBN submarine shakedown operations and missile flight tests QualificationsYou meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you Have a BS in engineering, physics, math, or other related technical discipline with relevant experience Have knowledge of key missile/reentry subject areas such as flight/ground testing, aerodynamic performance, flight dynamics, guidance, flight control, and propulsion Have a strong computer background and programming skills, including MATLAB Are comfortable interacting effectively with individuals of different experience levels and backgrounds including external industry and military personnel Have strong communication skills both verbal and written are required Have demonstrated initiative, motivation, flexibility and interest in working in a team environment. Are able to travel occasionally to APL's Hill Air Force Base Field Office in Utah, as well as to supporting contractor sites and other military bases in the US Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
