Contractor offers are determined based upon candidate qualifications, related experience, internal equity, and the amount budgeted for the position.JOB BRIEFUnder the direction of the Process Improvement Manager and in consultation with the Event Production & Protocol team, the Food Services Specialist coordinates the Institute's food service function, ensuring quality control, food safety and cleanliness, sustainability, and food and supply ordering and recordkeeping. The Food Services Specialist also assists in providing food service oversight during the food service contract transition period. This position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Process Improvement Manager.RESPONSIBILITIESCoordinates daily food and beverage services and catering activities for the Institute.Serves as main point of contact and coordinates with external caterers for routine and high-level conferences, meetings, and events. Processes requisitions and invoices for external catering services.Research catering trends and promotes competitive catering services.Prepares, sets, and oversees beverage service for high-level internal meetings.Ensures that the level of quality and presentation are being met according to standards and Banquet Event Order (BEO) specifications.Obtains feedback regarding the quality of food served and services provided and takes steps necessary to ensure client satisfaction.Attends BEO, staff, precon, and other meetings as required.Procures food for catering and food service in accordance with applicable Institute policies. Inventories goods on hand and initiates purchase orders for all food goods. Ensures all supplies necessary for catering events are present on the day of the event.Provides backstopping support for caf operations.Ensures compliance with food safety standards and with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.Conducts equipment inventory, maintains par levels, and orders equipment in accordance with established standards.Ensures the cleanliness of all food preparation and catering equipment and work areas.Provides miscellaneous administrative support to the Event Production & Protocol team.Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSAssociate degree in business administration, culinary arts, management, or related field, or equivalent experience.5+ years of related experience required, including one year of lead or supervisory experience.Ability to secure Food Safety Certification within 90 days of hired is required.Excellent knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.Exceptional time, task, and resource management skills.Exceptional customer services skills: actively looks for ways to assist clients and coworkers.Ability to effectively organize and coordinate multiple priorities; ability to problem solve.Proficiency with computers, especially MS Office.Good understanding of financial and budgeting processes and principles.High professional ethical standards and comfort with diversity.Must have the ability to work independently and as an integral part of the team.Must be able to operate with only general supervision, exercising discretion and independent judgment.Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.Ability to maintain flexibility and to operate in a changing and fast-paced environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.This position requires moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, and bending, lifting, carrying, or otherwise moving in a constantly changing environment.
