Description (This is a re-advertisement; previous applicants need not re-apply) The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), a six-time National Recreation and Parks Association Gold Medal Award Winner, is seeking an Ice Rink Manager (Recreation/Enterprise Facility Manager III) to oversee the daily operations of the Cabin John Ice Rink and Cabin John Train. This position is in Montgomery Parks based in the Cabin John Regional Park. The Department serves a diverse population of more than one million residents in Montgomery County, Maryland and manages 421 parks on more than 37,000 acres of parkland. The Department has an annual operating budget of over $100 million, a six-year Capital Improvement program of over $180 million, and a career staff of nearly 800 employees.The Ice Rink Manager will perform professional managerial work in the programming, operation, and maintenance of a multi-sheet (Olympic, NHL, Studio Rink) indoor ice-skating facility with a full-service pro shop, snack bar, 8 locker rooms, off-ice studio, 3 conference rooms, and bleacher seating. This position will be responsible for staff supervision (recruits, hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates), facility and equipment maintenance, program administration, facility budget, purchasing and inventory control, administration, marketing and customer service. This position along with its career staff's assistance will oversee the Cabin John Miniature Train operations. The train is a replica of the 1863 CP Huntington, a 4-2-4T steam locomotive that pulls five passenger cars which carry approximately 105 visitors on a scenic two-mile ride through the Cabin John Regional Park (about a 15-minute ride). The train operates seasonally from April-October, hosts special events in the Spring and Fall, as well as offers a party room onsite.This position requires regular exercise of independent judgement and performance of duties within policy guidelines. Salary is commensurate with experience. Examples of Important Duties Manages overall day to day facility operations. Helps develop and implement long term goals and operational procedures (eg hours, rules, safety, etc.) at the Cabin John Ice Rink and Cabin John Train (open seasonally). Oversee the year-round programming and special events of the Cabin John Ice Rink and Cabin John Train. Conduct research to identify trends or seek information that would be useful to develop programs. Develops marketing strategies for programs with marketing staff.Supervises designated staff. Recruits, selects, trains, schedules, and evaluates career and seasonal staff to assist with operations. Conducts performance appraisals. Ensures all staff receive various training (CPR/First Aid; customer service, etc.)Manages and coordinates facilities' operating budgets which include revenue producing facilities and programs. Works with managers on project planning and facility improvements. Prepares financial reports and assists with recommendation of fees. Responsible for regularly monitoring revenues and expenditures within approved budget and reporting them to Enterprise management. Manages facility records and reports in accordance with Commission policies and procedures*. Prepares and maintains a variety of administrative records of the facilities such as; revenue and expenses, inventory of supplies and equipment, timecards, rentals, facility maintenance and attendance. Attends professional seminars to identify new programs, methods and equipment which might be useful for the facilities.Assist with marketing facilities. Works with marketing staff to promote the facilities and amenities through various media outlets including social media (Facebook, websites): assist with preparation of marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, and giveaways. Updates facilities' websites.Coordinates the maintenance and repairs of the facilities and grounds, and ensures they are promptly addressed with minimal disruption to facility programs or schedules.Managers customer service activities of the facilities. Sets a positive example for employees ensuring customers are treated in a prompt, professional, and respectful manner. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or four years experience in one of the following fields: parks, recreation, education, business administration, physical education, communication, leisure services, or in area of required specialty; andFour years of progressively responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, education, business administration, physical education, communication, leisure services or area of required specialty, including two years as a facility manager, program coordinator or supervisor; orAn equivalent combination of education and experience; and,A valid operating license (eg, county pool operator's license and child care license), where appropriate.A valid driver's license may be required. Supplemental Information The Ice Rink Manager must possess a background in ice skating with an emphasis on ice rink facility management, and must be knowledgeable in the development, implementation, and administration of a comprehensive skating program.Additionally, must have a working knowledge of the maintenance of buildings and building systems to include refrigeration and HVAC systems.Weekends and Evening are required.
