Director of Field EducationThe George Mason University Department of Social Work, within the College of Health and Human Services, invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, administrative faculty position as Director of Field Education.The mission of Mason's Department of Social Work is to prepare future social workers to be effective leaders, scholars, and practitioners who have the necessary tools to promote human well-being by ensuring economic and social justice, as well as human rights for all. The Director of Field Education is part of the departmental administrative leadership team comprised of the Department Chair, BSW Program Director, MSW Program Director, MSW Online Coordinator, and Community Programs Manager and works collaboratively with the faculty and staff.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Department:The Department of Social Work has internationally recognized faculty for their expertise in areas of behavioral health, older adults, children and youth, and immigration, with a proud history of faculty-student-community research collaborations. The Department of Social Work offers BSW and MSW degree programs with an educational and research mission focusing on practice and policy interventions that improve health and well-being and promote economic and social justice, particularly for underserved individuals, families, and communities. It has just launched a highly-enrolled online MSW degree program, and is building a PhD degree. The Department comprises 17 faculty and serves approximately 200 BSW and 275 MSW students. The Department enjoys its location 15 miles from Washington, DC, which allows students internship opportunities at some of the country's most sought-after national, government, and community field sites. Further information about the Department may be found at: https://socialwork.gmu.edu/Responsibilities:The Director of Field Education provides leadership to the Field Education Office and is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all components of field education for all options of the BSW and MSW programs. Major responsibilities include:Oversee the staff associated with the Field Education Office;Recruit, manage, and support all field placements, field instructors, and field liaisons;Design and deliver orientation and training to students, field instructors, and field liaisons;Maintain partnership agreements with field agencies and associated documentation;Manage files for students and practicum sites using the field education placement software (Sonia) ;Facilitate integration of field education with other components of the BSW and MSW curricula;Collaborate with faculty on selection and assessment of field agency selection and placements;Plan, schedule, and staff field education seminar courses;Work with the administrative leadership team to initiate, plan, and execute field faculty training, support, and evaluation;Work with the administrative leadership team to maintain accreditation standards and assessment;Make field education policies available to BSW and MSW students through a current Field Education Student Handbook;Maintain curricular documents related to the Field Education program (catalog, manual, handbook, website, brochures);Initiate, plan, and implement programming for students to enhance the learning environment and provide opportunities for feedback;Maintain current membership in and participate in CSWE;Assist with student recruitment as needed;Participate in faculty meetings, university governance, professional, and public service; andServe on departmental and college committees.Required Qualifications:MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program with considerable (generally a minimum of five years) post-MSW experience; or equivalent relevant combination of education and experience;Extensive experience in field education in academic settings;Knowledge of CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards;Solid administrative, leadership, management, and supervisory knowledge and skills;Organizational, time management, and detail-oriented abilities;Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills;Ability to engage and work with diverse stakeholders in the department, college, university, and larger community;Knowledge of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, and database capabilities;Ability to work efficiently and effectively with a diverse student population; andA professional social work identity with accompanying values and ethics.Preferred Qualifications:Ph.D. in social work or related field;Experience with nontraditional adult learning and online teaching;Successful experience in a comparable position at an academic institution; andExperience as a program director at a CSWE-accredited institution and knowledge of the accreditation process.About the University:George Mason University is the largest and most diverse public university in Virginia with nearly 39,000 students from all 50 states and over 130 countries.
