Assistant Director of Emergency Management The George Mason University Department of Safety, Emergency, and Enterprise Risk Management (SEERM), is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual for the position of Assistant Director of Emergency Management. About the Position: The Assistant Director of Emergency Management will be primarily responsible for attaining and maintaining Emergency Management Accreditation Program certification. This position will also oversee and manage emergency management team schedules, strategic planning, program development, professional development planning, emergency management training, and special projects in accordance with emergency management guidelines, standards, and best practices. This position also serves in a deputy capacity to the Director of Emergency Management and Fire Safety by providing focus and attention to the Emergency Management programs and goals to include development and maintenance of key required programs in accordance with regulatory compliance obligations, stakeholder engagement, and department-specific outreach efforts. This position will serve as the liaison between emergency management and other University departments and /or contractors where special events and emergency management projects are concerned. Required Qualifications: Graduate degree (MS, MA, MPA, PhD, etc.) in emergency management, public administration/affairs, public safety, business management, or similar discipline required, or equivalent education & experience;Experience managing Emergency Management Programs;Knowledge of the Emergency Management Accreditation Program;Supervisory experience;Ability to develop and execute strategic plans, develop policies, and implement standard operating procedures;Knowledge of and ability to use related software programs;Prior hands-on experience developing and delivering emergency plans and exercises; Excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience working successfully with stakeholder groups;Knowledge of all phases of emergency management and familiarity with an all-hazards approach to emergency planning; Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects, identify and competitively respond to emergency management grant solicitations, manage projects without a reporting relationship to supporting staff;Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a cooperative team, communicate with individuals at all levels of education and experience, deliver comprehensive reports, and prepare comprehensive emergency management plans and exercise materials;Experience developing inspection schedules in a dynamic environment; Successful completion of a comprehensive background check;Ability to lift 40 pounds, bend, crawl, and kneel; andMust currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator's license that meets all of GMU's requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason's Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/ The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver's licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.Preferred Qualifications:Experience at an institution of higher education;Experience reconciling invoices and budgets for contracted works; andEmergency Management certification (AEM, CEM, FEMA Professional Development Series or Advanced Professional Series) or equivalent, or ability to acquire one of the listed certifications within nine months of start date.
