Job Summary/Company:
We are actively seeking an experienced Legal Specialist to support legal operations in our Collections team. The primary functions of this position are to provide collections follow-up on late-stage delinquent accounts, including locating members using advanced skip-tracing efforts. You will contact members to secure payment on delinquent accounts by performing collection duties according to Credit Union collection policies and procedures. Attending in-person and virtual court appearances and preparing reports for management, executives, and our Board of Directors is critical to this role. As our legal specialist, you will manage the process for legal vendors. You will execute advanced collection processes including by not limited to modifications, third-party collection accounts, short sales, and foreclosures. As an integral member of our Collections team, you will provide a remarkable experience to every member.

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years of loss mitigation experience is required

• 3+ years of progressive legal operations experience

• Minimum of 2 years of financial services experience and familiarity with Credit Bureau reporting

• Experience working with auto loans and general understanding of Department of Motor vehicles (DMV) policies and procedures

• Knowledge of consumer loan origination practices

• Basic knowledge of fraud types and fraud schemes

• Ability to self-motivate with little oversight

• Detail-oriented, resourceful, and with the flexibility to adapt quickly to change

• Strong attention to detail; ability to enter precise documentation notes on accounts

• A love for a collaborative, energetic, and member-focused workplace

• A strong work ethic as well as an outgoing, positive personality and a sense of humor

• Bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred

• Symitar experience is a plus

• Ability to handle a high volume of incoming and outgoing calls daily and update the status of accounts on a daily basis with accurate detailed notes and follow up actions

• Ability to research and resolve discrepancies
