As a Government Information Specialist (Privacy/Cyber), this position serves as a Supervisory Privacy Compliance Manager, and is responsible for ensuring compliance with privacy practices and consistent application of sanctions for failure to comply with privacy policies for all individuals in the organization's workforce, extended workforce, and for all business associates, the information security officer, and legal counsel as applicable.

Being a Coast Guard (CG) civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:
  • Supervising staff establishing guidelines and performance expectations for staff, conducting performance evaluations, resolving complaints and grievances, developing work improvement plans, providing advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters, ensuring subordinates are trained, and managing personnel administrative matters such as reviewing and approving leave requests, and furthering equal opportunity goals.
  • Conducting on-going privacy training and awareness activities.
  • Establishing a process for receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating, and acting on all complaints concerning USCG's privacy policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring systems development and operations for security and privacy compliance.
  • Conducting privacy impact assessments of proposed rules on the privacy of personal information, including the type of personal information collected and the number of people affected.
  • Participating in the implementation and ongoing compliance monitoring information sharing access agreements, memoranda of agreements or understandings to ensure all privacy concerns, requirements and responsibilities are addressed.
  • Supporting the organization's privacy compliance program, working closely with the Privacy Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with federal privacy laws, regulations, and polices.
  • Resolving allegations of noncompliance with privacy policies or notice of information practices.


Conditions of Employment

To qualify at the GS-14 level, applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience may include:
  • Supervising/managing a staff or serving as team leader.
  • Developing privacy training programs and/or guidance;
  • Developing privacy and compliance standard operating procedures;
  • Resolving allegations of noncompliance with privacy policies.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
