Duties

  • You will assess agency compliance with law, regulations, policies, and requirements related to fire prevention of fire protection programs.
  • You will develop airfield rescue firefighting criteria to direct aircraft fire suppression.
  • You will brief senior leaders or other employees on matters on firefighting actives, personnel, and equipment
  • You will compose fire safety messages for publication
  • You will determine the state of readiness of firefighting apparatuses, equipment, systems and devices

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.


Qualifications

***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector II, and Fire Instructor II. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.***

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Enforces structure fire and emergency services criteria for fire department administration, fire suppression, and emergency medical services (EMS); 2) Follows criteria and guidelines to assist fire chiefs in developing standards of cover, pre-incident plans, integrated incident command operations, and investigation of structural, marine vessel, aircraft, and aircraft facility fires; and 3) Provides implementing direction for fire department administration and reporting of self-assessment activities.

This position is eligible for part time, full time or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.

Physical Demands:
Work is sedentary from the physical motion viewpoint.

Work Environment:
Primarily work is performed in an office environment. Field functions include visits to Navy fire departments, contractor plants and testing of new or innovative technology in fire apparatus; Navy Industrial Facilities; airfields; and Research and Development activities. The work environment on field trips may require use of protective clothing, including breathing apparatus and life vests when appropriate.
