Duties

  • Serves as the Chief of Current Operations for a battalion with responsibility for the operational and staff management of a specialized program.
  • Participates in the planning, coordination, and supervision for all exercises and operational deployments.
  • Develops long range plans for current and emerging operations and oversees individual and collective training to achieve the commander's intent.
  • Leads the military decision making process (MDMP) for current and future operational planning.
  • Reviews higher headquarters guidance and directives, and then promulgates formal guidance to the organization as appropriate.
  • Coordinates and , where appropriate, leads collective interagency processes and produces planning products.

  • May be required to work overtime or irregular hours.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with access to sensitive compartmented information and special access programs.
  • Must pass the organization's Personnel Reliability Program which includes credit check, drug screening, polygraph and psychological evaluation.
  • Must be willing to deploy to hazardous duty areas in support of operations and training for periods of up to 120 days.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience in operational planning, interagency coordination, intelligence collection and military training; Experience in HUMINT or SIGINT/Cyber operations, such as collection analyses or collection management, and non-conventional US military capabilities and limitations.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
  • Knowledge of and expertise in operational planning, interagency coordination, and military training.
  • Skilled in processing of staff actions, innovative thinking, organizing and planning, and timely decision making.
  • Strong ability to engage in professional, interpersonal interaction, create liaison relationships, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and cope with stressful situations and time sensitive critical activities.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively through oral and written correspondence.
