Duties

  • You will extract and compile information to create weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
  • You will record training, qualifications, and other training related information in accordance with processes and procedures.
  • You will support range operations by performing duties related to safe operation, training support, administration, appearance, routine and periodic maintenance, and cleaning of firing ranges.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operators license and explosives safety drivers license.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • The incumbent is required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area assigned. Safety equipment such as ear plugs and hard hats are issued.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be subject to random testing.
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain the following certifications: -Explosive/Hazardous Materials Driver -Material Handling Equipment Operator -Basic Explosive Safety (AMMO-18)
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain the following certifications: -Small Arms Range Safety Officer/Line Coach -Electrical Explosive Safety (Ammo-29) -Performance Qualification Standards (PQS) certification for small arms preventive maintenance


Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Provide support in the areas of safety, security, and training for all small arms, ammunition, and explosives for a training facility; 2) Provide small arms range operation support including scheduling, hazardous waste management and small arms range maintenance/cleaning; 3) Instruct, evaluate and/or facilitate training in the use of small arms, ammunition and explosives; 4) Store, transport, inspect and/or maintain arms, ammunition and explosives in accordance with established procedures and regulations.

Education

Applicants that do not meet the specialized experience as described above may qualify with education or a combination of experience and education, as follows:

Have successfully completed four years of education above high school level.
OR
Have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience. Percentage of education plus percentage of experience must equal 100%.

Must possess the ability to lift and move 50-100 pounds of range equipment.

The position often requires irregular hours.

This position requires rotating shift work.

This position requires evening and weekend work.

Employee may be required to work on rotating/swing shift beyond regular working hours, during nights and weekend hours, and overtime.

Field work involves being outdoors in all types of weather while establishing Special Use Ranges within potentially hazardous areas due to the presence of unexploded ammunition (duds), live fire ranges, and ordnance.

Involves working in the vicinity of explosive devices and weapons firing, a noise hazard, and being around heavy machinery and construction sites.
