In accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Emergency Temporary Standard, The Arc Central Chesapeake Region (The Arc) requires all its employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Therefore, by applying for a position with The Arc, you understand that you will be required to verify that you have at least one dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, or one complete dose of the singe-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine by your first day of employment. Employees are also required to wear face masks when visiting and/or working in all of The Arc's offices or programs. The Personal Support Assistant is a Direct Support Professional who supports one or more individuals living in their own home within Anne Arundel County. The Personal Support Assistant will support an individual's life choices and facilitate opportunities to build relationships within their local community. This position can be both part-time and full-time. Candidates must meet the following requirements: All new employees must provide proof of at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on or before their first day. Accommodations will be made on a case by case basis for documented religious and/or medical exemptions. Possess a high school diploma or equivalent, such as a GED. Have a valid Maryland Driver's License with 2 or fewer points. Have a personal vehicle which will be used to transport those you support. Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance. Prior experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred. Essential Functions Assist people we support to maximize their independence and personal growth while making individual choices based on their Person-Centered Plan. Ensure goals are developed, implemented and progress benchmarks are being met. Provide support with daily living activities at home and in the community, such as meal preparation, personal care, and the maintenance of a clean and healthy living environment. Monitor and report any concerns regarding an individual's living conditions; ensure Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) and OHCQ regulations are met for all home environments. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 75 pounds in supporting people with activities of daily living. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to drive is a requirement of the position.
