Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Environmental, Health & Safety Engineer (EHS) Level 2 or 3 for our Elkton, Maryland facility.The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY, Palm Beach Gardens, FL and San Jose, CA.Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Discover charming small towns, parks with miles of trails, specialty and antique shops, award winning restaurants, and inns. You can hike, bike, camp, bird watch, ride horseback, or drop a fishing line. Five rivers, Chesapeake Bay and the C&D Canal can be explored by boat or by land. Health & Safety Engineer: Implements the company's environmental, industrial, health and safety program to meet federal regulation compliance for one facility. Oversees the development, planning, and implementation of environmental, health and safety practices; develops procedures (chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention, and building safety) used throughout the facility. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental safety. Oversees licensed hazardous waste disposal and monitors waste handling. Develops and oversees company training programs for employees in areas such as compliance training, lab/plant inspection, hazardous material handling, emergency response, industrial hygiene, and life safety. May be the point of contact for emergency personnel. Ensures appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist.Other responsibilities include;Perform documented safety audits to ensure implemented precautions are being followed.Work with other disciplines (eg, Engineering, Operations, Programs, Facilities, etc.).Perform worksite audits, inspections and evaluations on the operating floor.Perform monitoring for potential health hazards in the workplace including: Chemical, Particulate, Noise, Heat Stress, Ergonomic, etc. (A basic knowledge of industrial hygiene instrumentation is needed).Assist in design reviews for new and modified facilities, processes, equipment and tooling for safety-regulated compliance to help ensure the safety of the employees and the process.Assist in accident/incident investigation to help determine causes and corrective actions as needed.Proactively recommending safety improvements.Assist in maintaining and classifying chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to meet the requirements of the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, including elements of the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).Perform program reviews of current policies and procedures to ensure that they meet the most current regulatory and consensus standards.Assist in safety related training courses. This may be preparation of web based training, or instructor led training.Tracks, monitors and reports on safety metrics providing accurate and timely information to management on safety issues.Performs work with minimal supervision following established procedures.Writes and updates safety programs, manuals and procedures.Works with operations to ensure workplace conditions comply with all applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standards.Coordinates and assists in carrying out internal company safety audits.Provides guidance to operations, maintenance and manufacturing engineering groups on machine safety controls, guarding and safe operating procedures.Provides subject matter expertise on plant-wide safety programs.Providing accurate and timely information to management on safety issues;Proactively recommends safety improvements;Participate in design reviews for new and modified facilities, processes, equipment and tooling for safety-regulated compliance to help ensure the safety of the employees and the processThis position can be filled at either the Environmental, Health & Safety Engineer (EHS) (2) / Principal Environmental, Health & Safety Engineer (EHS) (3) level, depending on years of experience and qualifications.Principal Engineer EHS Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene or related field & 2 years of experience or Master's Degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene or related field & 0 years of experienceMinimum of 2 or more years of experience in position(s) responsible for the environmental health and safety program of a company engaged in manufacturing.Thorough understanding and broad application of safety regulations, standards, principles, theories, and techniques.Competent in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).Excellent mathematical, problem solving, written and verbal communications skills.Must be able to gain clearance from the BATF to be an employee possessor.Must be a US CitizenSr. Principal Engineer EHS Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene or related field & 5 years of experience or Master's Degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene or related field & 3 years of experience or a PhD in Safety or Industrial Hygiene or related fieldMinimum of 5 or more years of experience in position(s) responsible for the environmental health and safety program of a company engaged in manufacturing.Thorough understanding and broad application of safety regulations, standards, principles, theories, and techniques.Competent in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).Excellent mathematical, problem solving, written and verbal communications skills.Must be able to gain clearance from the BATF to be an employee possessor.Must be a US CitizenPreferred Qualifications:Experience with technical regulations such as Process Safety Management, and other OSHA regulations as they apply to plant operations.Experience conducting safety meetings, safety audits, oversight of safety programs.This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor."Salary Range: 70900 - 106300Salary Range 2: 87800 - 131600Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
