  • Provides wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instruments sets, and equipment.
  • Maintains stock and primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services.
  • Pulls stock and material, replenishes stock inventory, interacts with customers and maintains records on stock levels.
  • Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in a computerized inventory management system.
  • Completes specialty cart preparation and stocking.
  • Informs clinic and ward personnel on new or changed items and supplies, current medical resources and shelf life.
  • Communicates with lead or supervisor on any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures.
  • Provides information to customers or external stakeholders regarding medical supplies.
  • Escalates complex or unresolvable issues to the supervisor or more senior staff.
  • Works with customers to resolve supply management issues including receiving requests, clarifying user requirements, explaining delays, expediting deliveries and resolving problems.
  • Works with clinical and administrative personnel regarding administrative and medical supplies.
  • Ensures data integrity of the inventory management system.
  • Utilizes computerized systems including bar-coding and automated inventory systems for the delivery and inventory control of supplies.
  • Utilizes an automated inventory system to monitor issues and receipts in support of stock replenishment processes.
  • Ensures data accuracy in the automated system.
  • Performs daily inventory using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule.
  • Delivers supplies in a timely and accurate manner, ensures supplies and material are delivered in sterile and operational condition.
  • Ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled.
  • Checks inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts.
  • Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates.
  • Cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled.
  • Recommends revisions in stock levels as needed to supply changes to Inventory Management Specialists.
  • Interprets policies, procedures, manual and regulations pertaining to supply/inventory management and federal acquisition systems.
  • Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock.
  • Fills requests for items based on daily schedules of need or on an emergent basis as appropriate.
  • Monitors stock usage in areas of the medical center and makes necessary adjustments.
This is a TEMPORARY appointment not-to-exceed one year or less (09/30/2022). Temporary appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration for one year or less. Should the need warrant, temporary appointments may be extended without further competition up to a maximum of one additional year (for a total of two years, or 24 months within the preceding three-year period). The appointment to a temporary position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.

Temporary Appointments Employees whose appointments are limited to 1 year or less are not eligible for within-grade increases. This includes permanent employees converted to appointments of 1 year or less, and employees given a series of appointments of 1 year or less, even though total service under those appointments may include sufficient creditable service to complete a waiting period.

Temporary employees serve under appointments limited to 1 year or less and are subject to termination at any time without use of adverse action or reduction-in-force procedures. A temporary appointment does not confer eligibility to be promoted or reassigned to other positions, or the ability to be noncompetitively converted to a career-conditional appointment.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position, applicants may advance up to two grades above lowest grade held within the past 52 weeks since last non-temporary appointment from register or direct hire. Example: An employee hired from register at GS-2 receives a new appointment, 6 months later, from register at GS-3. Employee meets TIG for GS-4 and 5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
  • Specialized Experience: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent for this position. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. The primary purpose of the position is to ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics. The incumbent provides wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instruments sets, and equipment. Assignments include, but are not limited to: Scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing, and the distribution of medical and surgical supplies, instruments, and other material. The work requires knowledge of applicable policies and procedures, as well as inventory systems such as the generic inventory package, bar-coding, aseptic procedures, and Logistics processes; OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level, you must have successfully completed four (4) academic years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree, or bachelor's degree, in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. An academic year is computed as follows: At the undergraduate level, successfully completed education that has not led to possession of a degree is credited based on its relationship to 120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours. For example, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours is comparable to 1 year of undergraduate education. Four years of progressive study or 120 semester hours meets the degree requirements. Additional credit cannot be given for duplicate course work. For study at a business or technical school, 36 weeks of study (20+ classroom hours per week) is comparable to 1 academic year above high school. When academic credit is expressed in contract months, units, or other terms that differ from conventional semester or quarter hours, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide an interpretation of such credits from the appropriate institution in order to equate them to the semester or quarter hours specified in the standard; OR,
  • Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. For GS-5 level positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. The following are examples of how education and experience may be combined. They are examples only, and are not all inclusive: The position to be filled is a Supply Technician, GS-5. The applicant has 9 months of specialized experience and 75 semester hours of college (15 semester hours beyond the second year and the equivalent of 3 months of specialized experience). The applicant meets 75 percent of the required experience and 25 percent of the required education. The applicant meets 100 percent of the requirement for 1 year of specialized experience and is qualified for the position.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.

Work Environment: Work is performed throughout the medical center and supported catchment areas, which includes wards, storage buildings, and warehouses that range from a clean environment to hot, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. The possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injury are present in the day-to-day work of the position. Work requires stocking supplies in the primary inventory area as well as numerous secondary inventory points throughout the hospital work area, including wards, clinics, operating rooms, warehouses, and nursing areas. Work requires maintaining a clean environment while performing tasks that can produce dust or other infectious pollutants while transitioning between environments. Supported units may be offsite requiring roundtrip travel time in excess of 90 minutes. Tours of duty may require afternoon, evening, and/or overnight shifts.
