  • Review applications and other written requests for completeness, accuracy, and legality as pertaining to DOD sponsored personal property shipments.
  • Examine documentation to ensure proper consignment of personal property shipment and authority for shipment.
  • Perform rating and routing tasks for shipments.
  • Determine the most efficient, economical rates and routes for shipments via the direct procurement method (DPM).
  • Consider weight, tariff rates, commodity, date of packing and pickup, required delivery date and inaccessibility of origin address or final destination to ascertain mode of transportation.
  • Screen movement orders for correct funding appropriation and citation, entitlements and authorization for shipment.
  • Receive, review, and process correspondence, official orders, and applications to move property from residences and non-temporary storage.
  • Forward appropriate advance documents to other transportation offices for movement of property both overseas and within the continental United States, as applicable
  • Calculate and report data on cost of shipping personal property for use in studies prepared at higher headquarters.
  • Prepare cash collections vouchers and submits with member's payment to the appropriate finance office for processing.
  • Compose correspondence to contractors', TSP, transportation offices, and terminal personnel as pertaining to shipment of DPM personal property or POVs within the Continental United States (CONUS).
  • Determine and select TSP and routes for overseas shipments.
  • Maintain liaison with transportation personnel of other agencies, shippers and TSP.

Specialized experience for the GS7 level: Must have at least one year experience with Personal Property shipping. Assisting with reviewing applications and resolving shipment issues.

Specialized experience for the GS 8 level: Must have at least one year experience determining efficient and economical rates/routes for shipments, reviewing completed applications for accuracy, resolving problems as they relate to movement of personal goods, and interpreting policies/regulations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) 7 position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) 8 position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
