Job Announcement

Works as part of a fun and fast-paced team. The candidate should have:
  • a high level of comfort and experience with technology and legal software programs, including e-filing in federal courts and utilizing case management systems and eDiscovery platforms, as well as an understanding of ESI and eDiscovery procedures;
  • research experience using Westlaw or Lexis-Nexis, cite-checking, proofreading, and formatting citations in accordance with the Bluebook;
  • the ability to manage large document productions, including identifying privileged material, redacting confidential material, applying Bates numbers, using programs such as Foxit or Adobe, preparing document production logs, using Microsoft Excel, and organizing documents, using case management systems and eDiscovery platforms;
  • experience in assisting attorneys in federal, state and administrative courts including discovery preparation such as depositions, witness subpoenas, subpoenas duces tecum, interrogatories, request for production, and requests for admissions, as well as mediation, hearing, and trial preparation;
  • the ability to use word processing and presentation software to prepare documents, and to use spreadsheet and statistical software packages to store, manipulate, analyze and present data;
  • the ability to work efficiently in a team driven environment, to prioritize assignments, and to delegate when necessary; and
  • the ability to manage work flow and work under tight deadlines and other time constraints, while responding to competing and shifting priorities.


Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the methods, sources of information and materials of legal research;
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of substantive and procedural law;
  • Knowledge of federal, state and administrative court procedures;
  • Knowledge of County legal procedures and requirements related to basic legal work in a variety of areas such as local taxation, workers compensation, family services, real estate and the County's grievance procedure;
  • Knowledge of systems and software technology to manage, track or organize information/data;
  • Ability to perform legal review/research;
  • Ability to use online legal research services and tools as well as the internet to perform legal review and research;
  • Ability to interview witnesses and to assist attorneys in preparing witnesses for deposition or trial, exercising judgement in determining the relevance of information to be provided;
  • Ability to compile and analyze data and create accurate and complete reports and charts;
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals, including the general public, members of the legal and business community, and department staff;
  • Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to work with short deadlines.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the following: graduation from an accredited college or university with an associates degree in paralegal or legal assistance studies or closely related field; Plus one year of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Not applicable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of five years of experience providing litigation support.
  • Strong technical skills, including in the use of Sharefile, Microsoft Office and Foxit.
  • Ability to apply statistical analysis techniques to identify patterns and trends in data.
  • Minimum of three years of experience providing eDiscovery technical services.
  • Ability to process, load, and troubleshoot native data into eDiscovery platforms.
  • Thorough understanding of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model.
  • Certified eDiscovery Specialist (CEDS) certification.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check.
  • All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally sedentary. However, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending and carrying boxes up to 40 pounds in weight. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
