Duties

  • Performs a variety of duties in the development of on-site plans and sketches and with projects involving repair, maintenance, and utilities.
  • Performs measurement, inspection, survey, monitoring, review, analysis, design and layout, and also performs a variety of inspections of projects during all phases either on a day-to-day or periodic basis.
  • Prepares appropriate documentation for the calibration, operation, maintenance, repair and modification of mechanical and electrical systems, production equipment and tooling, other utility systems and/or facilities.
  • Coordinates various features of engineering projects with engineers and nonprofessional engineering personnel relating to civil engineering, structural engineering, electrical engineering, or other related engineering features of the project.
  • Makes on-site visits to affected shop or plant areas to independently investigate particular items or groups of items for operating inadequacies, modifications or adaptation to meet requirements.
  • Serves as project coordinator/COR and participates jointly with other engineering personnel and Public Works Department personnel, FORSCOM, COE, and contractors.
  • Receives assignments in the form of a work request (DA 4283) or individual job order (IJO).
  • Reviews all engineering drawings, plans, specifications, standards, regulations and other applicable references.
  • Writes Quality Assurance Surveillance Plans (QASP) for the division Service Contracts.
  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles in assessing specific requirements, delineating engineering interpretations and translating scope of work, cost estimates, time materials, etc.
  • Coordinates with Safety Office on all safety matters relating to safety practices used by personnel performing contracts.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) creating and/or reviewing design plans, specifications, and work order requests for the modification, repair, and maintenance of a variety of mechanical, electrical, and utilities equipment and systems; 2) providing contract oversight for all assigned engineering projects; AND 3) communicating engineering project requirements to both engineering professionals and non-engineering personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS09.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
