Duties

  • You will assist in providing resources for the execution of systems, subsystems, component and device level design, development, integration, and evaluation of products into air vehicles and support facilities.
  • You will plan, direct and control all activities of the Branch.
  • You will formulate approaches using knowledge of related projects to resolve a variety of technological and/or corporate problems.
  • You will serve as a senior technical subject matter expert that exercises independent technical authority as delegated to the position.
  • You will apply state-of-the-art innovation to take advantage of new concepts in the development of advanced avionic systems and/or the latest technology.
  • You will handle major issues and controversies by recommending what work or services will be performed and what compromises can be accepted.
  • You will develop plans and prepare written and oral presentations for stakeholders on project status, technical problems, scheduling and costs.
  • You will carry out the full range of supervisory functions as well as provide administrative direction of assigned personnel.
  • You will provide technical leadership and direction to internal and external contact in support of agency mission and program objectives.
  • You will responsible for Division portfolio investment accounts? management and reporting supporting advanced and innovative avionics concepts, standards development, and experimentation across the Division.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized Supervisory Professional Engineer, Supervisory Electrical Engineer, Supervisory Computer Engineer, Supervisory Electronics Engineer, Supervisory Aerospace Engineer, and/or Supervisory Computer Scientist experience equivalent to the NM-04 STRL Pay Band or equivalent GS-Grade Level (GS-13/14) in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Examples of specialized experience includes performing the majority of following duties: (1) Demonstrated engineering expertise in developing and integrating Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), Ground Control Station (GCS) systems, subsystem component architectures, flight and mission planning systems, and/or related avionics; (2) Developing and executing technical plans, processes, and/or strategies for assigned aviation program; (3) Serving as a subject matter expert in Avionics or related area; (4) Coordinating and/or assigning work assignments of integrated program team members or subordinates, based on organizational priorities, selective consideration of difficulty and requirements of assignments, and/or capabilities of employees; and (5) Providing technical recommendations in support of assigned aviation program.

Education

For 0801/0850/0854/0855/0861 occupational series, applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
-Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science of physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics.
OR
-Have a combination of education and experience - college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-In-Training examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in 1. A above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

Applicants being considered for 1550 occupational series must meet positive education/basic qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual as listed below:
-Successfully completed a bachelor's degree in computer science.
OR
-Have successfully completed a bachelor's or higher degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of my 30 semester hours were in a combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
