PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT RE-APPLYThe Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission is one of the largest organizations servicing both Montgomery and Prince George's counties. In both counties we manage the park systems, but in Prince George's county we also develop the public's recreation programs.Our Department of Parks & Recreation, the Maintenance & Development Division (M&D) is the largest division in Parks & Recreation. We provide high quality maintenance and maintenance support services for all of the parks and recreation facilities within Prince George's County. We have six major work areas: Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures (Trade Shops), Horticulture & Forestry, Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects (Aquatics, Heavy Equipment/Roads and Grounds, ADA and Sustainability)and the Administrative section. Examples of Important Duties This position resides under Heavy Equipment (HE) which is responsible for various types of grading and excavation projects including: demolition, storm water system repairs/installation, building parking lots and trails and renovating athletic fields. In coordination with other shops, maintenance yards, Commission contractors and government agencies, this unit will coordinate or implement projects in snow removal, material transport and more. As an Equipment Operator I, you major responsibilities will be to: transport material (such as stone, dirt, concrete and asphalt) and equipment (such as trucks, bobcats, bulldozers, large excavators and off road trucks) using dump trucks or tractor trailers. While on a construction or renovation site, you may need to coordinate a team of park maintenance workers to do jack hammering, seeding, silt fence installs, storm water system repairs/installation, asphalt, concrete or other ground work. As one of the essential team members for the Prince George's County snow removal team, your role will be key to insuring that the roads within the County are continually salted and plowed as needed as well as conducting daily walk-around inspections of your equipment to trouble-shoot it as needed. You will of course keep a daily log in accordance with DOT standards. This position requires that you be able to run track loaders, rubber tire loaders, backhoes, Bob Cats and also be able to load onto a dump truck. Some leadership experience would be preferred and you should also be a team player who gets along with other employees. The ability to read a map is also essential. Class A Restricted CDL License Preferred - Class B Required at Hire; Restricted Must be obtained Within 6 months of Employment (Work Hours are 6:00 am - 2:45 pm) Minimum Qualifications 1. High school diploma or GED, and2. One year of relevant light-to-medium heavy equipment operation experience; or3. An equivalent combination of education and experience.4. Must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements at time of employment.5. Successfully pass Commission medical examination.
