If this sounds like you, The Montgomery County Department of Parks is the place you want to be! We are currently seeking a dynamic, creative, highly organized Inclusive Programs and Events Assistant. The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is a six-time National Recreation and Park Association Gold Medal Award Winner. Reporting directly to the Community Outreach and Inclusion Specialist, the Inclusive Programs and Events Assistant will assist in leading the Montgomery County Department of Parks in embracing inclusion and accessibility for all. Salary is commensurate with experience. Examples of Important Duties Program Development and Support Assist in the development and implementation of Program Access sponsored special events and leisure programs.Work cooperatively with appropriate staff and event managers to ensure adaptive equipment is available and functioning at large Park events.Assist in the development of Therapeutic Recreation and specialized programs and provide direct leadership/support as needed.Assist in the coordination of programs for the 50 and better population. Coordinate specialized programs for Veterans.Act as Support Staff in programs and classes as needed. Public Relations and MarketingAssist with Public Relations and Marketing strategies; contribute to web design efforts; attend community outreach events and programs.Support community and partnership collaboration initiatives. Important Skills and Characteristics Knowledge of Therapeutic Recreation, Adaptive Recreation, or related field. Vast knowledge of disabilities and disability characteristics. Knowledge of legislation and regulations affecting individuals with disabilities (ie, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ).Proficiency in developing and implementing leisure programs and events.Strong project management anize work efficiently and effectively. Ability to solve complex problems involving many variables.Ability to develop creative marketing and promotion strategies.Possess strong public relations skills.Ability to work with highly confidential documents and data while ensuring confidentiality.Deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.Excellent communication skills, superb written, verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills.Ability to develop and make effective presentations to large groups.Respond immediately and effectively to crisis situations. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Adaptive Recreation, Special Education, Recreation and Parks Management, Special Event Management.Two (2) years of responsible experience in program planning, event management, adaptive recreation.Experience in public relations, creative marketing strategies. Experience working with a Parks Department or other government organization.Skills and proficient in MS Office, collecting and reporting data, preparing presentations, researching, document control and performing other computer functions for data management and retrieval.Ability to communicate in another language a plus. Minimum Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree or four years of progressively responsible experience in therapeutic recreation or related field (eg, special education, vocational rehab, etc.) and two years full-time professional experience; or 2. An equivalent combination of education and experience. 3. Valid Maryland driver's license, or the ability to acquire one.
