Computer Lab Technician The George Mason University Computer Game Design Program, within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, seeks qualified candidates for a Computer Lab Technician that will serve the Computer Game Design Program, Virginia Serious Game Institute (VSGI), and the Mason Game and Technology Academy (MGTA). About the Position:The Computer Lab Technician will provide technical and administrative support to the faculty, staff, and students. The Computer Lab Technician will also manage, in coordination with faculty and staff, all computer labs and studios assigned to the Computer Game Design Program, VSGI, MGTA, and coordinate all technical needs, and maintain all classrooms, labs, and equipment. Responsibilities:Meet 6 times yearly to review hacking, computer and server security, and coordinate with peers in technology departments university wide;Serve as Liaison for desktop computing best practices, server security best practices, confidential and private information practices implemented through the ITS Data Stewardship Policy;Supervise, manage, assess, maintain, and prioritize changing needs of purchasing, setup, inventory, maintenance and repair of all digital media environments including classrooms, labs, studios, faculty/staff workstations, and visiting artist, resident startups, and partners;Research prices and order all technology equipment, software, and supplies for digital environments, faculty and staff, artists, resident startups, and partners. Lead person for developing partnerships with computer hardware and software vendors;Train wage and work study personnel for support of digital classrooms, labs, and studios, faculty and staff, artist, resident startups, and partners;Manage, maintain, and coordinate file sharing and file storage, and all websites, including hardware and software security and upgrades;Provide general program and facility support as key information person for computer labs, classrooms, studios, faculty/staff office equipment. Coordinate with Directors, Assistant/Associate Directors, faculty, and staff to maintain and upgrade changing office and work environment technology needs; and Gather information, submit requests for, and finalize purchase requirements for all classrooms, studios, labs, faculty, and staff obsolete and new equipment. Required Qualifications: B.A./B.S. or equivalent experience in information technology, computer science, or game design; Experience with ESXi for quarterly or bi annual server updates;Knowledge of current game-specific and general computer hardware and software technology and platforms, including current operating systems; Knowledge and experience with, and of, networks, security, and server technology and protocols; and Demonstrated experience in the field.Preferred Qualifications:Window Administrator, A+ Certification (Comp TIA), Basic or Beginner Linux Administration;Basic scripting knowledge;General diagnostic skills (hardware and software); and Experience working in an academic environment.
