Duties

  • You will assist in the identification and development for the requirements and specifications applicable to material and technical inspections during the overhaul, maintenance and installation of reactor plant system on nuclear powered vessels.
  • You will recommend design and process modifications to eliminate malfunctions or improve performance, including follow-up with testing or other monitoring to ensure satisfactory outcome.
  • You will be a technical; authority on work assigned and serve as a consulting source for shop personnel performing repair or manufacturing work.
  • You will keep abreast of all administrative and technical developments in the naval nuclear propulsion plant and related fields.
  • You will provide guidance and information to engineers, technicians, mechanics, consultants, quality control inspectors, supply and project personnel and others who develop and implement procedures pertaining to systems and test.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.


Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the Gs-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience with a working knowledge of the concepts and principles related to reactor plant materials, metallurgy, reactor physics, heat transfers, hydraulics, stress analysis and mathematics.
  • Experience with a working knowledge of design and operational theory of nuclear reactor fluid, instrumentation, control equipment, and systems.
  • .Experience with a working knowledge of advanced nuclear engineering work being done for the department in other government laboratories and contractor plants.
  • Experience with a working knowledge of the theory, principles, techniques and practices of nuclear engineering that enables the incumbent to serve as a technical consultant on projects relating to the overhaul, repair and testing of nuclear, fluid, and mechanical systems and components.
  • Experience with the ability to assist in the development of engineering instructions and procedures for the accomplishment of reactor plant overhaul and repair work.
  • Experience with a wide variety of computer automation information systems to conduct research, and develop all types of reports, and for tracking trends and dates.
