In this position, you will serve as a Materials Expediter responsible for the movement of priority repair parts and items for heavy mobile and automotive equipment, keeping mechanics and vehicle maintenance supervisor informed of material status. Typical assignments include:
  • Preparing material requisitions for repair parts and materials required in support of vehicle maintenance shop work requirements; repairing parts and materials requests that come directly from mechanics and servicers evaluation of the equipment.
  • Receiving materials, parts, components and assemblies from suppliers or warehouse and examining items received to verify part number, identity, and quantity with routing documents, checks for discrepancies such as untagged parts attached or unreported damage and routes to mechanics in order to complete repairs.
  • Unloading material from trucks, pallets, or pallet boxes, opening crates, boxes, cartons, or bags as necessary and removes material for storage and placing material in bins or assigned storage space in production shop area.
  • Dispatching material through vehicle maintenance shop in accordance with established schedules and the predetermined flow time allowed.
  • Utilizing an automated maintenance management system to order parts and other related systems to prepare and route related documents necessary to identify, order, receive, and return repair parts and materials; processing, tracking, and handling all associated paperwork related to vehicle repair parts and shop materials.


Promotion Potential: Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.

All MWEOC staff have emergency assignments and are considered deployed in place. Exercises and activations are planned and unplanned, and may require long hours, nights, weekends and holidays.

All MWEOC employees are: (1) required to use a government-issued electronic device (to include cellular phones); (2) subject to recall during emergency situations; and (3) required to perform work in locations both above and below ground.

EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

COVID VACCINATION: As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period in accordance with FEMA's telework policy.

Qualifications

The qualification requirements listed below must be met within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standard . Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Working Conditions: Regularly exposed to possible injury associated with handling equipment. Work is usually performed indoors in a well-lighted and ventilated production shop area. May be exposed for short periods to outdoor conditions. Regularly exposed to shop noises, dirt, fumes, and vibrations.

Physical Effort: Regularly handles weights up to 40 pounds unassisted, with carries up to 25 feet. Occasionally handles weights up to 60 pounds. Material handling devices and assistance of other workers are available for handling especially heavy items. Heavy exertion is frequent. Constant kneeling, crouching, stooping, and walking is required.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
