Duties

  • The Executive Officer provides expert advice, recommendations and assistance for all operations under the Chief Operating Officer (COO) including, but not limited to, administrative, business, project, and task management.
  • Informs and advises on a wide range of high-level administrative, programmatic, strategic, and project support to the COO and the Chief of Staff (COS) to the COO.
  • Monitors and tracks tasks and works with internal and external staff to ensure successful implementation of NDU Operations tasks and internal and external requirements.
  • Prepares contents for meetings and ensures that all written communications are of the highest quality and the COO's messages are clearly articulated; interacts with senior level officials.
  • Directly manages the Executive Secretariat and provides direction to ensure smooth operation of daily office activities.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to a GS-13 if outside the Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as:
1) providing advice, recommendations, and assistance for a full range of duties in support of an overall mission including administrative management, business management, and project management;
2) experience in preparing meeting, presentation, and project content for senior leadership and communicating messages on behalf of senior leadership;
3) ability to interpret and apply policies involving sensitive or unusual situations; and
4) demonstrated experience adjusting goals, priorities, and deadlines to meet substantial changes in methods, procedures, and workloads.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education is not substitutable for specialized experience for this grade level.
