Duties

  • Troubleshoot, repair, modify and maintain a variety of heavy mobile equipment, such as: construction, industrial, combat, tactical, and powered support equipment. Equipment may include bulldozers, graders, tractors, generators, forklifts, etc.
  • Remove and replace major systems or components of equipment to include power packs, transmissions, transfers, gear reduction units, injector pumps, air conditioners, fuel pumps and alternators.
  • Make idle speed, current, brake, and transmission linkage adjustments.
  • Perform initial and in-process inspections; perform mechanical diagnostics and troubleshoot to localize defects and determine cause of malfunction; perform mechanical maintenance on defective parts; and perform minor body work.
  • Provide technical assistance to unit personnel.
  • Operate motor vehicles to perform the duties of this position.

This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for DoD Maintenance Activities.

POSITION IS ANNOUNCED AS A STANDING REGISTER (OPEN CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT): First cutoff date to evaluate candidates will be 03 December 2021 at 11:59 PM. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT REPAIRER without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the following screen out element to be considered further. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: troubleshoot, maintain and repair heavy mobile equipment to include performance of preventative maintenance checks and services; repair, replace, install, or make adjustments to mobile equipment components and parts; and conduct various operational tests to perform final inspection. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision
  • Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Work on top of, under, or in tight compartments of equipment. Frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed in a maintenance shop setting.

  • Due to COVID-19, the agency is currently in an expanded telework posture. If selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Once employees are permitted to return to the office, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement within a designated time frame identified by the organization. At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the agency's telework policy.
  • This position offers a recruitment bonus to individuals who are newly appointed as civilians in the Federal Government. You are considered newly appointed if this is your first appointment as a civilian employee in the Federal Government or if you have a minimum of a 90-day break in service from a previous Federal civilian position. You may qualify with a break in service of less than 90 days only if your previous Federal civilian appointment was a time-limited or non-permanent appointment. Your recruitment bonus will be made in two payments. You receive the first payment when you enter on duty, and you receive the second payment on your first anniversary. To accept this recruitment bonus, you are required to make a two year service obligation to the Army Reserve Military Technician Program. If you fail to serve the specified period, you may be subject to repay the agency the recruitment incentive.
