Duties

  • Plans and supervises staff overseeing, assigning, and reviewing work.
  • Analyze data using quantitative methods from statistics, mathematics, operations research, or other quantitative disciplines.
  • Provides guidance on the application and use of statistical and mathematical theories, methods and techniques to solve problems, and appropriate computer systems and software.
  • Provides guidance on complex problems by developing mathematical models or other statistical methods.
  • Communicates statistical concepts and results in technical and understandable language to a variety of audiences.
  • Coaches/mentors others to improve their knowledge and skills of specialized quantitative areas and concepts.
  • Establishes performance standards and evaluates performance; rewards employees; ensures staff development.
  • Ensures adherence to merit principles and equal employment opportunity; recommends selections, promotions or reassignments; and handles grievances and disciplinary actions.

  • Position has been designated as Special Sensitive. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

  • Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG.
  • Current DoD civilian employees are not required to submit to drug testing if moving from one Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another with no break in service, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
Time in Grade:

For entry at the GS-14 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-13 or higher grade in the Federal Service.

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-13 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as: Experience in sampling and analyzing data and providing analytical support in response to audits, inspections, evaluations, and investigations and communicating this information, in and understandable way, to a variety of audiences as well as leading and helping team members perform these functions. Experience in providing guidance on the use of statistical and mathematical theories, techniques used to solve complex problems, interpretation of results, as well as the hardware and software needed to accomplish these functions.

Volunteer Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience.

Qualification and time-in-grade requirements must be met at the closing date of this announcement. Applicants who have held a non-temporary General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the time-in-grade restriction.

Education

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience:

There is no substitution of education for the qualifying experienceat the GS-14 grade level.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to substitute for the specialized experience requirement.


To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. You must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education .
