Duties

The Deputy Division Chief will play a crucial role in the reorganization, hiring, and management responsibilities required as the JSD assumes responsibility for critical new missions.

The incumbent will report to the Chief of JSD, and their duties include but are not limited to:
  • Providing management oversight of several branches within JSD;
  • Directing the development, implementation, and operations of an integrated security/vulnerability risk mitigation program to protect the judiciary, courts, facilities, and assets from the entire spectrum of threats;
  • Developing long and short-range goals and objectives for the judiciary security/vulnerability risk mitigation program;
  • Assisting with providing strategic oversight of all emergency response activities for the judiciary;
  • Assisting with providing planning advice and recommendations to judiciary and government officials regarding new policies, resolution of complex vulnerabilities, crisis management, and possible responses to increased threats;
  • Coordinating with law enforcement partners in response to attacks against the judiciary;
  • Attending professional conferences, seminars and workshops and representing the judiciary on inter-agency and other working groups in meetings;
  • Assisting with monitoring JSD programs and projects for scope, budget, and schedule compliance;
  • Serving as a judiciary subject matter expert on all things related to security, emergency management and threat vulnerability;
  • Supervising and leading a staff of security professionals, emergency management professionals, vulnerability management professionals and support staff; and
  • In the absence of the Chief, JSD, serving as the Acting Chief, JSD, to ensure continuity with the oversight, management, and mission assurance of JSD.

  • If appointed to a temporary position, management may have the discretion of converting the position to permanent depending upon funding and staffing allocation.


  • Qualifications

    Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.

    Specialized Experience : Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience in ALL of the following areas:
  • Developing long and short-range goals and objectives for security and/or vulnerability risk mitigation programs;
  • Providing recommendations to senior-level officials on complex security and emergency management matters;
  • Supervising and leading a staff of security professionals, emergency management professionals, vulnerability management professionals and support staff; and
  • Providing strategic oversight of emergency response and security activities.
