Duties

The CLC Medical Director assumes the physician leadership role in answering and following all Community Living Center (CLC) consults in a timely manner in conjunction with the CLC Consult team. The duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Actively engages in case finding, developing and maintaining CLC program education for the facility, quality improvement and administrative functions of the CLC Unit.
  • Acts as a liaison and primary care provider for the community care agencies.
  • Covers a number of inpatient unit beds in the Community Living Center (CLC) and participates in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) CLC meetings as well as Geriatrics and Extended Care staff meetings.
  • Provides routine care to residents admitted to the CLC, to include both Long-Term and Short-Term care. As the CLC care program grows, this requirement will be scaled back.
  • Works with the CLC care team in the CLC to develop optimal care for the veterans on this unit.
  • Works to develop and staff an outpatient care clinic with the assistance of the CLC team. On a consultative basis, patients will receive geriatric care evaluation and follow up after discharge from the hospital.
  • Teaches students, residents and fellows in the ward setting about geriatric care. Develops and maintains an educational folder for house staff to cover night/weekend geriatric care.
  • Develops and maintains educational modules for geriatric medical staff.
Work Schedule: Full time
Tour of Duty: 8:00am to 4:30pm

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 49-55 days of annual paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements of this position include occasional lifting; prolonged standing and sitting; frequent bending; walking (distance); climbing; reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive); repetitive motion, and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall; reasoning; problem-solving; hearing; speaking clearly; writing legibly; reading; logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes-fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities; frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions; and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes-noisy environment. There may be an occasional need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness, and hazardous materials.
