Duties

Duties include, but not limited to:
  • Provide patient centered primary care medical services to male and female Veterans in collaboration with a dedicated RN and LPN.
  • Manage chronic conditions, evaluate and treat intercurrent medical conditions, and scree for onset of new health related conditions.
  • Uses state of the art electronic medical record that contain all clinical information related to VAMC outpatient and inpatient care and remote data from other VA and DOD sites.
  • Perform occasional minor office procedures common to general internal medicine and family practice skills.
  • Collaborate with a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) to provide accessible, comprehensive, coordinated, continuous care to an assigned panel of patients.
  • Ensure that the practice of medicine is consistent with Joint Commission Standards, VA policies and regulations, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation and HIPPA policies.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:45 - 4:30

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board Eligible

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: Functional requirements include Light to Moderate Lifting (15 - 44 lbs.); Light Carrying (15 lbs. and under); use of fingers; both hands required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Both eyes required Depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted).

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
